It even came with our first serving of sauerkraut in Germany, believe it or not sauerkraut is not that easy to find around us.

Somehow Rothenburg is a hit for Americans and Japanese, a sister city? It did mean the Criminal History Museum was in English and Japanese as well as German. We're quickly learning; museums with signs in English are much more interesting for us. They had ...

2 Romantics, 1 Road

Guten tag from Germany!

We've been all over Europe, to random places like Bosnia and Slovakia, but we've never managed to make it to Germany. So here we are!

We flew through Iceland, and landed in Frankfurt yesterday. We picked up our very cute Smart Car convertible, and drove out west to the famous Romantic Road. This is a 220 mile long stretch of road running south that is dotted with castles and medieval towns. We stayed the night in ...

A Wonderland for Walkers

... We walked down the Weissgepbergasse (with the oldest remaining buildings in the city), we passed the former home of painter Albrecht Durer, we drank some Mokarabia, climbed the castle, found a traditional Bavarian coat for Pam, and then, since Germany is full of Turkish immigrants, I finally had some Turkish street food. After shooting off an email to some extended family in Frankfurt with some initial plans ...

It just leaves you with one less day to work with, but hey, I’m in Europe, I don’t need time. I’ll have time when I get back to The States. We have a few more planned, one to the BMW Museum and another Infineon factory and possibly a few other museums. Oh, and hopefully a soccer game! That will be very fun!!

... avert future danger.' It is good that this remembrance in the Federal Republic of Germany has constantly been intensified since 1945. In order to prevent that the evil events of the year 1938 will ever be forgotten, the citizens of Bad Windsheim have donated this stone to commemorate Windsheim's former Jewish citizens, and I am grateful for this as it expresses the commitment to never, anywhere, at any time, let it happen again. As Mayor of Bad ...

Unpacked and Settled in Bad Windsheim

... But I was already in Ansbach and the consultant I was replacing was a delightful, bright, enthusiastic woman from Oregon who provided me with 72 hours of adjustment to loss and grief counseling as she walked my jet lagged, sleep deprived body around the base and over the endless back streets and hiking trails of Bad Windsheim. We shared stories and laughter while she assured me that after 6 isolated weeks I would be talking to the bathroom fixtures. As most of ...

"What's so special about that place?"

... the only information I could find about this brave knight was in German. But I did find out that it is a war memorial of some kind. I think it's pretty cool looking. It was now getting very dark so I figured I better be heading back. The bike ride from here on out was much easier because it was almost all down hill. After getting lost once I found my way back to my parents house. I now eagerly await tomorrows destination... Berlin.
