Sossusvlei Namib-Naukluft Park, Namibia, 264-061-274500
... the tourist hotspot of Sossusvlei but to continue to Sesrium. Just outside Sesrium is a large Engen garage, here we stocked up with fuel, some groceries and delicious ham and cheese baps, pastries and cakes. The staff were really friendly and helpful. From Sesrium we took the C19 for 26km then turning left following the signs to Hauchabfontein.

Immo and Immi Foerster have created a beautiful camp situated away ...
Sesrium, Hardap, Namibia neilandchris... I decided not to take advantage of this offer, visited the magnificent area with all stuff and finally found a nice place to camp a few kilometres outside of the Park - for nothing!
Altough the nights in Namibian deserts are usually in beatiful scenery, the incredible silence to experience here, takes some courage! It is true: Absolutely silence can be very loud...!

Sesriem, Namibia pajas... change through various shades of vivid red and orange as the sun made an appearance, creating stark contrasts with the shadows along their ridges. Getting down was a much speedier process!

From there we headed into Sossussvlei for a fascinating tour from a local "bushman". It was a surprise to learn that deserts don't actually like water - it wreaks havoc for all the local ...
Sesriem, Namibia claireandian... long legged, big boobed, gorgeous blonde Swedish girls on it.... that's the vision the boys have anyway. I don't want to be the breaker of dreams so I simply added the truck also had a hot tub and left the boys to it. We haven't seen it yet but they have an ever watchful eye looking out for it just in case. Back on the truck for more driving, by now it must have been near 3. I huddled up on the beach and watched the world zoom by. Plains of yellow corn coloured grasses went on forever ...
Sossusvlei National Park , Hardap, Namibia oliveramber... way hiking point) to collect the bakkie. I'd been informed that the apple pie in Solitaire is world famous and as a result they make abouy 35kg of the pie a day. Personally I didn't think there was anything particularly exceptional about the pie, though sure they could improve the apple pie experience with a bit of custard. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I now again had the freedom to ...
Sesriem, Namibia vermaakjeanne... climbed to the top of a dune overlooking the vlei- dead trees trapped in a pan of clay, which apparently floods every 10 years. We thought the vlei had been given a bit too much hype but enjoyed the view of the dunes against the bright blue sky. However it was unseasonably hot, around 40 degrees, while we were at the desert camp and the heat ...
Sesriem, Namibia dave_carol... Best thing to do is step in the person's tracks in front of you. I also found it is easier to walk without shoes...I stopped half way up and took them off. I got to the top right before the sun came over the dunes. It was an amazing sunrise. The dunes have an unbelievable red/orange color that seems so bright in the sun. I enjoyed the view for awhile but the sun started getting hot and we have a lot to do today. Getting down the dune was much easier than getting ...
Sesriem, Namibia gajordandk51... like 12 people. We stopped for lunch in a mountain pass with a dry river bed. Not a bad place to enjoy lunch! We arrived at our campsite around 4 pm and got our tents set up. From the campsite, we headed to a small canyon a few kilometers up the road. It was a short hike down into the canyon. The canyon has a natural pool of water that you can swim in. The water was pretty cold but I probably won't be back to Namibia any time soon so I'm going in ...
Sesriem, Namibia gajordandk51... can reach as high as 300m and constantly shift and change with the wind. the road out to Sesriem, the access point for an exploration into and onto some of the dunes was a little rough. we lost another window, a shock absorber, a few bits of plastic (unnecessary anyway) and got bogged. But, we made it through with some perserverance, slow patient driving and my muddy underwear (what else do you push a car out of a clay bog in). The gates into ...
Sesriem, Namibia nratty... us into the desert. We thought we had done with walking up dunes for the day but we were sadly mistaken as he set off up the nearest one at the speed of light. On the way up he stopped frequently to wait for those of us lagging behind and to tell us some interesting facts about the desert, the creatures that live in it and its environment. We learnt that during its lifespan the Oryx doesn't need to drink water as it gets it from the plants that it eats. He also pointed out some beetle ...
