Whats typical Norwegian

I went to Stavanger in june to attend the beach volleyball world tour, but when I got there I
fund so much else to do that I didnt find the time to watch the volleyball. Its was insane, and
the best part is that everything is so close that you can do alot in one day. I spendt 10 days there
and it is without doubt the best vacation I have ever been on.

I live in Amsterdam and ...

The Lysefjord near Stavanger

Another couple mad train rides from Bergen to Oslo and then over to Stavanger took us to small oil town, from where we would make our way to the beautiful lyseford. The fjord is quite deep, and we came to take the hike up to the Preikestolen, high above the fjord. The hike was great, and though we were soaked by rain upon arriving in Stavanger, it wasn't too bad during the 2 hour trek up.

"pero no te preocupes, que yo te lo he solucionado: no hay plazas en ningún vuelo de Copenhague a Kristiansand hasta la noche, ése lo tienes seguro, y mientras tanto, te tienes que pasar el día en el aeropuerto viendo si te dejan pasar en  vuelos anteriores.... y lo siento en el alma, eh?" A última hora me di cuenta de que perdí el día a lo tonto, porque me podía ...

Thanksgiving Dinner

... apartment, so I had to use a broilder pan and a special Oven Roasting bag (thanks Becki!) It was fun preparing the meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, peas & carrots, and gravy. However, it did get a little hectic at the end when I had to take the turkey out of the oven, mash the potatoes, and make gravy and then I forgot to heat the rest of the stuffing in the oven. Everything did turn out and we had a delicious meal.

May 17 - Norway's National Day

May 17th is Norway's National Day. It is a day off from work and it is a big celebration day. There are parades...Children's Parade at 9am and Folk Parade at 4pm and everyone is out in their national dress. There are Norwegian flags everywhere you look. Luckily the weather was great, so we got to enjoy the celebrations indoors and outdoors. We started with a Champagne ...

Row, row, row your skis

... Not everything was better in the old days if you ask me. On top of the cabin upgrades, Wenche's cooking skills are excellent and her turkey dinner was a winner for sure. One afternoon, my whole family was invited to a BBQ at the cabin, and pretty much the whole bunch showed up, driving hours to get there. Very impressive! After a few days at the mountain cabin, I headed towards the coast where my sister Ingrid and Asle have their ...

Canadian Thanksgiving in Norway

We had a Thanksgiving dinner tonight. We couldn't find a turkey, so we had roast chicken instead. Since there was only the two of us, we really didn't need a whole turkey anyway. I posted some pictures of the food we ate. I made roast chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans with mushrooms and pumpkin pie. It was difficult to make the ...

A clear cold day breaks on Sandnes

... evening. And that enjoyable evening must have helped me, since I woke up feeling better. We took a walk around Sandnes on the river trail, and stopped by the downtown cemetery that has Hans's grandmother and a few other relatives. Everything stays closed until two days after Christmas, so there wasn't much traffic buzzing around, but a few families were out enjoying a morning walk. It felt good to be out in the sunshine, feeling almost human again.

Three days of work, now a little play

... a very nice mocha. Sandnes does not have an internet cafe, and the DSL is not hooked up at the apartment yet, so I might not have many entries on this trip. Here are a few trip highlights so far. We have set up Ingebret's new computer, visited the local IKEA for a computer table, assembled said computer table, hung a few pictures and Hans added a dimmer switch for a ceiling lamp. We have also eaten nearly our body ...

A short tale about Stavanger

... shrimp to eat. And for dessert: strawberries of course :-) I love strawberries and I guess it is because the strawberry season is so short. Only for a few hectic weeks in the middle of summer can you get the sweet Norwegian strawberries and in this periode I get a bit carried away and I eat it all the time :-) Well, I hope that this has encourage some of you to stop by Stavanger. If you do come here please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you want more information about the area.
