Sunday afternoon concluded a 2 day weekend full or racing in Sarnen, Switzerland. We did well Sunday afternoon in the finals, earning gold, silver and/or bronze medals in almost every event that we entered, including the senior eight, straight four and pair. Sarnen is an absolutely breathtaking town that i wasn't able to fully capture with my iPhone camera. The lake has crystal blue water and is surrounded on three sides by beautiful ...

Today is the journey home. Because the plane takes off around 5pm we need to leave the hotel at noon to travel to Basel. This has given us enough time to have a relaxed morning and wander round the town. We were up breakfasted, packed and out of the hotel just after 9 o'clock.
Initially the weather was overcast but the clouds ...

Didn't get much sleep last night, the hotel ranks as a one of the worst. Noisy, uncomfortable, not en suite, you get the picture.

Went for the basic breakfast and then the plan was to meet the rest of the rally at a car park in Calais at approx. 8:30am.

First though, the day 1 fancy dress, I have to say we were both killing ourselves laughing getting ...

... off our bags at the very least. (We weren't supposed to be able to check in until a few hours later, at 4pm). We wanted to pay cash for our room to avoid fees, but because of our unexpected lunch splurge, we didn't have the cash on hand anymore. We looked for a Bancomat (ATM) as we walked across town to the Backpacker's Hostel. By the time we got there, we still had not found anywhere to get cash, so we continued looking. Finally we decided to go see if we could find the gal ...

    ... sensational!

We were treated to a traditional horn playing by an elderly man in Swiss costume, He played Amazing Grace and we found ourselves singing with a man from Korea and another from Japan as we were trudging up the mountain - very inspiring,

After that amazing expedition we drove and drove through the Swiss scenery that continued to surprise and overwhelm us. 6 and a half hours later we were in Lake ...
