28/1/2008 On the road again...to arrive at Jodhpur From Jaisalmer to Jodhpur is approx. 305 kms. The road is bitumen and 2 laned, and most of the time, not too busy. The waiting area at Jodhpur train station is about the size of a hockey rink. Three quarters of it is filled with people covered in blankets, sleeping side-by-side, not an inch between them. We rolled into Jodhpur in the morning, having taken the overnight train from Agra. We did book that train ticket when we were still in Orchha, just to make sure we had the date we wanted. Newly renovated, old haveli
I stayed in the cheapest room, which gave me a room on the bottom floor with two twin beds and my own spotless bathroom with hot water, plus a towel. It was quiet and just what I needed to return to after running around Jodhpur all day. I had no view, but with all the terraces, I only went to my room to sleep or shower.
Food is decent and I would especially recommend the Thali--if you speak Nepali, though, the kitchen crew will like you lots. Internet connection is excellent. They also give a lot of other serivces, but the best part is the fact that they go 24 hrs a day! (i.e. midnight snacks are available)
The Fort is in your face, practically right in front of the place! A 15 min walk puts you at the entrance, so you can beat all the crowds without having to wake up so early.
As of now, they're planning on adding a swimming pool and underground "disco" in the next year, so if you're looking at this in 2007, check it out.
Dig it, kids. Worth your while if you can get the cheap room. The expensive ones look great too, but I didn't stay in them. A rickshaw from the train station shouldn't be more than 25 Rs. It's not listed, but you can see more pics and info at --.

The view to fort, and yes, the simpathy of the staff was good, but the scenario is way too sad to pay for it. It's a pity to stay in such place, when there are many others, much better, and for a very reasonable price...
I'm writing this down only a couple of hours from being there, because I really felt I should share this experience with the 'tripadvisor' community.
Now, I believe other reviews are not trustefull nad maybe were written by the Hotel staff, family and friends, otherwise I think it is impossible to rate it so well.
We're staying at 'Ajit Bhawan' now, which is very much better, but off course with a very different price too... That's what happens when things don't get as you expect and you are too tired to go find another place with an equivalent price, in a city you don't know nothing at all...

Great example of hospitality
Staying at this hotel was quite an experience. Not only for having a great infrastructure and wonderful service, but because we could really feel what was a caring staff when one of our group members had a minor accident and everyone helped us go through the panic process in the most caring and efficient way I have ever seen. Try their restaurant, say thanks to Vish at the door-a blast of a guy that will make you laugh till the end of your trip; and say hi to the reception guys, and have a nice conversation with their concierge. Count on them as your support group, and don't forget to pamper yourself at this great place. No words can ever say how a group of people can turn an unfortunate event into an opportunity to enjoy the surroundings and even meet new friends. Great example of hospitality.
Nice place for recommendation
The hotel, even on the inside, is very practical all the way. The lobby had a counter, some sofas and a currency exchange board on the freshly-painted wall; the staircase going up to the rooms was clean and had some beautiful old pictures. Our room, a large airy double room, was squeaky clean -- freshly laundered sheets, clean curtains, well-polished wooden furniture, a neatly tiled bathroom. Everything heartfully done and all amazingly neat and very clean.
The room had a telephone, room service, running hot and cold water and even a colour television with satellite channels. Upstairs, a big restaurants served meals. The views from terrace are beautiful offering full fort view, jaswant thada, clock tower, umaid bhawan and blue city itself. The garden on the roof made the ambience more beautiful and place more relaxing. We ordered tea and snacks twice through room service, and the service was very quick and efficient -- and this at a time when the hotel was full to the brim.
On the whole, this is a place I'd recommend for anybody looking for quiet, comfy accommodation with heritage feeling. The facilities are adequate, the staff's friendly, and it's good value for money.
Good food & helping family
It's probably a bit misleading to describe the menu as being purely Indian, as we discovered that Mrs Mathur loves to learn recipes from around the world and actively encourages guests to teach her dishes from their home countries (she herself have travelled to several countries and learned dishes of those respective countries). Consequently, there are dishes from different parts of the world on the menu, as well as a variety of Indian foods. There is also a note on the menu that says that if there's something you would like that is not shown, then ask and they will try to provide.
The guesthouse has only been open for 2 years or so, and Prof. Mathur, a retired management professor, and his family (with links to earstwhile royal family) all work together to provide a number of services for guests. While waiting for your meal, it is possible to have an ayurvedic head massage in one of the pleasantly appointed guest rooms. Or, should you be interested in the history of Jodhpur, particularly the British colonial period, Prof. Mathur has an impressive collection of memorabilia and photographs from this period. One of us was quite keen to see this collection, so we arranged to return for dinner in the evening.
We ordered a mixture of Indian dishes and sat in the rapidly cooling air on the terrace, enjoying the smells from the kitchen and the night view of the town. The food was excellent and the service very attentive. The temperature, however, was freezing. We hadn't returned to our hotel on the outskirts of town, and so were dressed for the heat of the day. On asking if it would be possible to borrow a blanket, one of the lads from the guesthouse was immediately dispatched to the bowels of the building and returned with what seemed to be the entire collection of family shawls for us. Some of them were of the highest quality, and we were moved by the kindliness shown as we were bundled up in the family's finery. It was the combination of good food and great hospitality that found us returning to the guesthouse a number of times during our stay in Jodhpur. I would also recommend the place in terms of the accommodations as well. They were clean and offered for a good value, and it was central to everything.

Oasis in Blue City
I was unwell, and the staff bent over backwards to get a doctor promptly, and helped us get my prescription.
The restaurant staff were polite and friendly and the food was delicious. Excellent roof-top views too.
We fel safe and secure, and the staff were geniune and didn't hassle us.
We highly recommend this special oasis to everybody travelling to Jodhpur.
Excellent place for recommendation
I discovered it quite by accident the day I arrived in Jodhpur, which was Sunday, 15th January, 2006! It's how I discover most places on the present trip to India as I am touring the country without a guidebook. I have used guidebooks before and I rather enjoy trying to prove them wrong. As soon as the auto brought me into the front courtyard to KP Heritage, I knew I had fallen in love with the place and I would be really happy there. It has a lovely old world Rajasthani style and one feels like one is already in the Mehrangarh Fort, as it rises, imposing the above one as one goes through the hotel. The choice of rooms is wonderful. They are all spacious, airy and comfortable, and the garden which is right in the middle of the ground floor, where my room is situated is a wonderful place to relax, enjoy some tea, coffee, fruit juice and in the evening have something stronger.
The rooftop restaurant has a great choice of meals and one has from it an excellent view, not only of the fort, but of the Jaswant Thada and a fair bit of the old city. All that is missing is a choice of desserts, ice-cream etc. But I suppose one can get those from a corner shop virtually around the corner. I had a great stay here and the atmosphere is really friendly as it is also familial. I wish the guest house and its management staff the very best as it is also a fairly new business venture and will highly recommend it further. I hope this recommendation will help the future visitors for Jodhpur.
