... thankfully wasn't one of those cultural shows where they dress up in historical dress and dance whilst tourists eat dinner. Instead we were seeing how Mayans live now and how they are trying to keep their culture alive and relevant.

... the rain!

As we reached the ruins it transpired that the delay catching the bus had done us a favour. Two large tour groups were leaving. These hadn't travelled by chicken bus, but by air conditioned private vans from posh hotels in Belize City, or from cruise ships moored offshore. Instead of being jealous of their air conditioning we console ourselves that they have paid a lot, lot more money to come here than we had!

The birthday celebration started early in Belize, I was woken up at 5:30am by Dani and Louise to my very own machete from the Wildtracks team! What a cool pressie! ... high enough! Dinner was a pleasant sauce and rice and after that we went to bed after finding a whip scorpion in our room! (The creature in Harry Potter!). Unfortunately later I woke up with my whole body burning, I must have been scratching in the night.
