Still grey in a.m. Decide to move on: thinking of visiting Corfu, if weather good. En route to ferry port, call in on Dodoni - oldest site of religious worship in Greece. Miraculously, another Euro-free day!Oracle pre-dates Delphi; devoted to both Gaiaa & Zeus. Impressive C3rd BC amphitheatre - capacity of 17,000 - & whole setting very dramatic. Remote, though: you ...

We move on to Ioaninna. Rained in night & overcast now... not inspiring. As we roll along, however, it starts to brighten up. Good roads and a reasonable journey. Camping turns out to be right on lake, only 1k from town. Sun beats down on us: perfect.
However, dark clouds loom on distant mountains, so we decide to carry macs when we set ...

... that are still inhabited today. The small island on the lake adds more beauty in the City, and attracts many visitors and tourists.
Today Ioannina is famed for its silverware, brassware and wood carvings, thus keeping alive traditions from past eras through finely worked objects that are sold in shops situated in the historical centre of the city.
... on the island because there are no cars, and the only way to get out there is by boat--the cars have a little area on the mainland to park and there is a ferry that brings the people to the island. There are several monasteries on the island, as well as Ali Pasha's last house (he hid on the island when he defied the Turks). We got to go inside one of the monasteries, but couldn't take pictures. The walls were 100% covered in various frescoes depicting the life of ...
