After Pai we heading back down south, the beaches were calling again! On our way through we stopped off in kanchanaburi, Torie told me it was a must!! Not that Torie's memory has been much help so far this trip... Hehe! It was a strange place, weirdly quiet, until we got to the famous waterfall which we rode to on a scooter, quite a way to ride....very numb bottoms by the time we arrived! We had a swim in some of the tiers but ...

... We tried another place, this one had a British guy, seemingly earning his keep by doing a shift on the travel desk. Communication wasn't an issue here, but he didn't know anything about the travel, where places were, how long it would take, how much it would cost etc. He also couldn't speak Thai so couldn't book it with the operators even if we wanted to! Third time lucky. We went into a place where the lady spoke decent English and ...

Places along the coast where they could easily get fish and were more exposed to foreign influence ...

... I felt thirsty for new scenery. I headed towards town which is about a 20 minute walk and stopped at some shops along the way. It made me really miss Balinese bargaining. You try to bargain a deal here and they just shoot you down. I feel like a whimpering, hopeless mutt looking for a gatdamn bone! The Thais have outsmarted the western world and know the farangs (foreigners) who vacation here will pay top dollar if they're dumb enough. I'm guilty of being ...

... on flying out. Upon investigation we found he could catch a ferry to Myanmar further north at Ranong. It worked out really well – he was able to cross and get back within a couple of hours. We then went to a quiet island called Koh Phayam – no cars allowed, electricity from 4-11pm, cold showers, and wifi at restaurants! We found it to be very relaxing and peaceful. We got plenty of exercise with walking and riding push ...
