this trip was very special to me,because it was the first one after I finally finished with school and had the freedom to do everything I want, without anybody else controlling me!the only thing I wanted to do is find a nice place with great people to relax and so I did.i met many interesting people and it was a journey to remember!
Naxos, Cyclades, Greece malena.drelaWell, a very enjoyable last night in Santorini. had dinner at a lovely restaurant overlooking the sunset strip. Pity it wasn't the clearest of nights but still spectacular.
Dinner consisted of grilled pork with pureed red pepper and potatoes with cheese and Souvlaki Lamb with baked potato.
A 5.00 am start got us on to the flight to Athens then Rome.
After a sleep in we wandered into town to choose a suitable location for our anniversary dinner tonight (21 years!).
As usual we just had to take more photos ~ don't worry, after a few more tonight this will be all of Santorini.
Next, Italy where the forecast is 0 to 14 degrees. BRR BRR
The weather has improved remarkably, the wind dropping from the 40 knot+ from yesterday as we set off on the sailing vessel "Captain Yannis". We departed Amoudi Wharf and motored to Nea Kameni, the volcano island, where we saw the evidence of eruptions dating back to 1630 BC.
That first eruption was 70 times larger than Krakatoa in Indonesia and produced a tsunami 250m high!
The most recent eruption was in 1950 and even today we could see hot steam venting from the ...
... legs got squished. Steve and I both had really funny donkeys that wanted to pass all of the others. It was a cool trip up the mountain.
We quickly found a place to rent an ATV and headed south. We drove all the way out to Red Beach and out to the lighthouse at Cape Akrotiri. There are dome shaped buildings all overthe island and they are all white. There are also heaps of buildings that are only partly finished and tons of tiny little churches. We stopped ...
... go!
So
to start with, I figure I'm pretty much a fully bonafide sailor
now, as we've been sailing the Agean Sea for about a day and a half and proudly
hopped to 2 islands so far! It's all absolutely stunning! However this Island
- turned Prairie Girl is admittedly not the sea worthy sailor my great
fishing tales would lead one to believe! I must have been the only one
on the boat sea sick! The wind has been ...
... site there, I think one of the most imporntant sites found. Then it was off to Paros for I nice relaxing time strolling the beaches and dancing at night. Sontorini is an island shaped like a big doughnut and in the middle is a dormant volcana which I went and explored with a few others. There were also thermal baths and mud that people rub all over themsleves. Besides making you look like a monster I'm not sure what ...
Ios, Cyclades, Greece ben27... to fit in as it's like it's own little community. The only thing that sucks about it and that really gets to you eventually is the transience of a place like Ios and Banff. It's fun for a while, but nothing ever really settles. Things and people are always changing and it's hard to find a sort of permanence and to settle into something like that. I think that's why Banff lasted only as long as it did. Always fun though. I love looking in the mirror after traveling ...
Ios, Greece steph_444... and it has been hard to find spare time or money to sit and type blog entries, so please bear with me. Thus far, I have traversed Scotland (Edinburgh) and the countryside, London, Paris, Lucerne, Milan, Bari, Athens, Naxos, and now Ios. I couchsurfed most of the way, and met a plethora of interesting characters, and I've found that it is a very rewarding and cheap way to travel. I suggest you al visit www ...
Ios (an island you douches), Greece redrevolver... party stay here. Later on that night after birthday dinner out we headed to the Red bull bar for some 2 for 1 cocktails and a bit of dancing. Got chatting to an aussie guy who gets paid 20 euro a day to chat to people and make sure they're all having a good time, he gets free drinks and said his accommodation at far out camping is 5 euro a day for a bungalow, so sounds like a great way to exist on ...
