The inhabitants had already left town, having been warned by earlier rumblings that something big was going to happen. So bodies weren’t found like there were at Pompeii, but valuable artefacts have been excavated, plaster casts made of various pieces of furniture, and ...

... around for a while and headed towards one of the beaches. It was pretty hot by then so we bought an icecream that we had to eat quickly because it was melting. We went for a walk along the black volcanic beach although we couldn't sit and enjoy the view because they charged you 7 euros to sit on a deck chair and use the showers on the beach.

We drove around a bit further and found this amazing place to take photos ...
