Today we arrived at Rhodes, The Island of the Sun and 4th largest island in Greece, where the sun shines more than 300 days per year. We were fortunate to be greeted by Nikos, a taxi driver who offered to show us around on a private tour of the highlights of the island for 130 Euro. First stop was near 'The Deers' a pretty spot on the harbour, the significance of the Deers was to protect the harbour. Nearby was the Metropolitian Church of the ...

    From here, the ...

... around the rest of the day. Around 10:00 the streets came to life, and shops appeared out of nowhere. Every street inside the city walls had wall to wall shops. If you couldn't find it, you didn't look hard enough. Donna found a few things, and we sampled some baklava. It was nothing to write home about. The gelato shop in Florence is the hands down winner on this trip. Finding ourselves back at a city gate by the harbor we decided ...

Our tour started with a visit to Mt Philerimos where the Church of Our Lady is situated. It is built over the ruins of a Greek temple dedicated to the Goddess Athena and Christian catacombs and is 1000 feet above sea evel so gives some great views.

The Chapel of St George dates from the 15th Century. You could walk down this tree lined boulevard where there was a series of 13 alters, one for each of the apostles and one for Mary and Jesus. At the end was ...
