... memory is the cheese pie that we bought from a local bakery and some Greek cookies that hit the spot. Worst memory is that I couldn’t find an ATM that would take my US bank card which in turn prevented me from replenishing my dwindling supply of Euros which I would need two days later in Malta.

3. The Peugeot. It was a lot of fun to drive. Too bad we can’t get them in Canada.

4. It was dark by the time we returned to Aghios ...
Crete, Greece brianporterWell I suppose we were pretty spoilt in Santorini. But I have to say Crete wasn't exactly what we had in mind!

We left Santorini on the slow boat (took about 3 hours) to Crete (which we heard was fabulous) and were sorely disappointed!

The weather was grey and pouring with rain - like really p!ssing down - and neither of us had any wet weather gear (or cagoules). Bugger. Not such good weather for people with yucky head colds!

Anyway, we ...
Crete, Greece markandnoma2009Yesterday we got up at 5am in order to catch our plane from Santorini. Most of our group was on the same plane , so we said our sleepy good byes. We flew on Aegean Air which has nice new planes. We went to Athens and then basically retraced the short flight by flying to Crete. We staggered into hotel Lato at 10am where we received a special bonus upgrade to the 5th floor executive suite. 2 rooms on the 5th floor with an ...
Heraklion, Crete, Greece nsadventures... was magic but the cocktails were dreadful. Kevin’s martini had ouzo in it but the barman refused to do another. Chris’ margharita seemed to be alcohol free and Milly’s Manhattan didn’t taste very good. So we moved to Axos for more drinks – this time excellent, and then to our favourite eating place, Yannis, for dinner. The drinks and food there were superb too and they gave us free cheese pies and raki (as if we needed more booze). Nice.
Heraklion, Crete, Greece kevino101We had a delay. Got up around 3:45 am and left Rose Cottage at 4 O'Clock for the airport. It was already starting to get lioght as we cruised by sleeping English villages. By the time we arrived at the airport it was fully light. Stood in a lond que(sp?) for check-in where we were told that our plane was delayed adnd that would we would hear further news at 10 am! (the joy of ...

Crete, Greece lindsey-canada... to report and this was at 19.15hrs but he was informed at 05.00hrs now you get your conclusion. I strongly believe that the raid was organized with somebody from the hotel and the thief's used a narcotic gas and a fake key to make the entry. My advice ...do not go in Greece especially in the place I m talking about you will have no security and nobody will care about you, the tourism agencies are selling just stories from the books in this case.
Respect
Hersonissos, Crete, Greece emilianmandaAfter we departed Knossos, we went to the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. We were disappointed that only two rooms were open; the rest was closed for renovation. This is the second museum we have largely missed out on. The Acropolis Museum is also closed as they are in the process of moving from their old building to a brand new building. The "King with Lily Crown" is a very famous fresco found at the palace of Knossos, and is an iconic symbol of Minoan archaeology ...
Heraklion, Greece tiara316Through a series of unfortunate events, this is the sole remaining picture of our magical day in Crete. In all of my genius I deleted the Crete and Turkey photos by accident and boy was that ever a sad day. Of course the first thing I did after getting home from the cruise was upload the Sbux series to Facebook, so now the Starbucks photo is the only one left of Crete :(
Heraklion, Crete, Greece lauren.warnecke... walk along. I can't think of much to worry about really, given the weather is beautiful, they get a few hours off each day, the food is divine.... perhaps it is the toilet thing they fear. 'Next time do I put the paper in the bin, or what the hell just flush it like normal people and don't walk out looking guilty...' I am also get myself organised for the next few days. That means a feery ticket booked for next week, and organising transport for an around the island trip. Vroom Vroom.....
