Since Mike and I have not been through the kayak safety class, we were on sit-on-tops while Ron had the sit-in. ....Note to self: go to kayak safety class so you can enjoy the speed, maneuverability and "fun" of a sit-in kayak.

The Aomori area "Snow Road" (road 103) opened up on 31 Mar, so after my trip to Korea, I decided to take a trip up to the Hakkoda mountains today to drive the snow road and do some late season snowshoeing.

We were suppose to take this trip last Saturday, but a forecast of strong winds closed down the"Ropeway" (cable car). This weekend the forecast was for cloud, but calm weather, BUT the winds again cranked up ...

... have been a very easy solo trip. The guide is a American who came to Japan 25+ years ago. He has no connection to the military, but likes showing off Japan to the military who are stationed here. I don't think it's all out of the goodness of his heart - I think he gets kick-backs from the various resturants, onsens, stores, etc. that he takes people to.
