... well against scenery, but with the leaves at the height of their colors, we actually blended in. Good thing none of us had to be rescued! :o)

All in all, it was a great day. I'm sure my arms, shoulders and neck will remind me tomorrow how much fun it was, but it was well worth it. Just an absolutely great day to be on the water and in Japan!

The Aomori area "Snow Road" (road 103) opened up on 31 Mar, so after my trip to Korea, I decided to take a trip up to the Hakkoda mountains today to drive the snow road and do some late season snowshoeing.

... although most folks go at night when they do set-off fireworks off over the lake, but..... that would keep me out after my bedtime :o)

The pictures really don't do justice to the near white-out conditions. ...but it wasn't like the car was going to go off the road while driving through Oraise Gorge. The snow was 3-4 feet deep. Not a plowed ...

... of seeing "Snow Monsters" on top of the mountain, we got a great workout climbing up the mountain from the parkinglot.

The weather was unseasonably warm making the snow really heavy and easy to pack down. As long as you weren't the one breaking trail, it was pretty easy going......except the uphill part.

... the sky, it warmed up very nicely. It was definitely a good day to have some smart layers on. As we hit a bit of uphill trail, all of us were unzipping, rolling up and replacing heavy gloves with lighter ones. Later the wind picked up a bit and then we unrolled and rezipped.
