... s Jewish quarter was next. Located here are the Jewish Museum, and a number of synagogues including the Maisel Synagogue and the Old-New Synagogue. The Old Jewish Cemetery opened in 1439 and closed in 1787. Other Jewish cemeteries in Europe were destroyed by the Nazis but Hitler ordered that this cemetery was to be saved so that it could be used as a museum after all the Jews had been extinguished.
