... familiar to me, I find I need assistance more and am remarkably getting it!
So, for a little blip on the map overshadowed by the larger center Izmir, I think we did quite well for a few days. And for being sick, nothing beats warm blankets, hot shower and toilet nearby. Hopefully we'll be able to set out tomorrow, although it may be by bus. Nice weather on the days we're sick, and now it's raining when we feel better. Of course!
... riot police were near us. (Really, riot police were there, with helmets, batons and big shields. I didn't think our reputation was all that bad!) The Turkish crowd seemed filled with a lot of young lads, female footballers and fans. They penned us in very quickly, with a group of what sounded and looked like big supporters of the game behind us, and a group of young lads who wanted to talk to us and share their sunflower seeds with us - they were very giggly throughout the first half. It ...
Izmir, Izmir, Turkey samlisaHello
Well, we made it to Izmir, but for a while we didn't think it was going to happen.
Let me take you through it one bit at a time. So get yourself a cup of tea and maybe a biscuit or two, get comfy and let's begin.

Sleeping under a giant tent on the roof of the Mavis Guest House in one of twenty seven beds stacked in twos and threes, I found myself living in a sleeping station; people coming and going at all times of the night, a continual chorus of snoring and snuffling, bag packing and unpacking, zipping and unzipping, a hive of human pre-sleep, sleep and post-sleep activity with rivers of drawl pouring down the stairs. I slept well there ...
... we were chased by the priests and the nuns of the institute. I'm only joking. We left quietly, taking a look at pope Jon the 13th's statue outside, and carried on to Taksim.
We have taken a liking to backgammon in a big way, and since once again, we have run out of money, and we wanted to try a boiled corn on the cob from one of the sellers of which there were many, along with fried chestnuts, hazelnuts, fresh fruit and Turkish pretzels. For this, we had to exchange a ...
... read many times the discourse
between two characters that I was able to find on a google search, and
quote it to Kristen all the time...much to her dismay...she hates when
I repeat things...and after 3 months of being together she has to put
up with a lot of that.
Anyway, the discourse goes as follows:
"I don't know anyone
who could get through the day without two or three juicy
rationalizations. They're more ...
... The interior is quite large and the walls are adorned with blue tiles, hence the name. It is the first mosque that I have entered so I don't have any comparison, although it was very impressive. I left the mosque and headed back to the old town and found a bench to relax for a moment. I was greeted by two guys, one speaking pretty good English and he treated me like a long lost friend. He spotted me as an American right away and then sat down next to me and tried ...
Istanbul, Turkey nedk... The finally day we were in Istanbul we took a ferry cruise up the Bosporus Strait and stopped at a small fishing village. There was ruins of a castle at this port where we were able to see the sea for miles. It was very beautiful. We also experienced the culture: ate lots of food, played backgammon and even smoked out of the water pipe (its only dried fruit). While we we there we also did some shopping at the ...
Istanbul, Turkey coverman... repair. İn the city of Selcuk itself is the Basilica of St John, where the tomb of John the Baptist is, although his body isnt i dont think (considering i saw a couple of pieces of him in İstanbul). The one sight i did mıss was the house of the Virgin Mary, which is supposedly where she died. İt wasnt actually on any of the tour guides, and i didnt visit it beacause i actually couldnt find it, so either that story is not true or they ...
Sulçuk, Turkey nattaiOur cruise stopped off in Turkey for a day. We toured a bazar/casbah and drank some tea.
I remember on our land approach, being surprised at how deep green colour the hills were, popluated with so many trees. The city buildings were a beautiful cream white colour - sublime beauty.
