Ready to go...

We are ready to leave for our 20-days-Adventure. Asia is waiting for us. Only 24 hours and we'll be catching the plane taking us from Zurich to Hong Kong. We are - curious, excited, overwhelmed... Right now we are putting the last stuff in our backpacks - I really hope that they won't be too heavy in the end. Tomorrow it will be all about 6 hours at work trying to close everything ...

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS, LAS RAMBLAS, AND THIEVES

We are doing another trip into Barcelona to see what we missed the other day. On our way to the train we pass the local market with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and clothes. We stop and have a look at it all. We debate if you should shop and not go to Barcelona. I buy a couple of bras 100 D – wow, life here sure is agreeing with me.

We continue on our way. We get in a train car and there is a chap with ...

... summertime. Places like Blanes and Lloret de Mar ar very popular and known for their party scene. We wanted something more calm. Pineda sounded like a nice place, close to Barcelona. Our hotel was practically ON the beach and the nearby villages were fun.

... lot of vendors selling fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and flowers. The guidebooks all warn visitors to be alert for pickpockets on Las Ramblas due to the crowds and we did hear of some people becoming victims. At this point I decided to head to the airport to see if my backpack would arrive on the 10:30 pm flight since my medicine was in it which I needed. I normally pack my medicine in my carry on but since it doesn´t weigh anything I put my heavier items in my carry on. I´m ...

AHHHHH BARCELONA!!

... it continues today. Because of the complexity of this project, it is estimated to be completed in the year 2020, and it is totally being paid for by the admission prices of those who come to marvel at his work. Run over by a street car in 1926, Gaudi died leaving a legacy behind him, and contributed the most touristy spot in the city. Another Gaudi destination is the park named after him, which he also created, hoping it would turn into a city rather ...

Weekend in Barcelona

... Las Ramblas toward the marina district. The evening turned out well as the rain had stopped by then, so that it was even pleasant. We saw some new buildings we hadn't seen the night before and looked at the docked boats imagining that one day we'd own a yacht or two. We ended up heading back to the place we had been to the night before. While we were decidedly not going to be dancing, I had missed one thing that I really wanted to do before I left. The night before I had seen a ...

... that had given the Picasso tour. If you´re not familiar, Modernisme was a school of architecture native to Barcelona. Goudi was one of the school´s chief inventors and practitioners along with Lluis Domenech i Montaner and Josep Puig i Cadafalch, among others. We saw many different examples of the form within The Eixample district (and walked our asses off), primarily residences commissioned by the flourishing bourgeoises upper middle class. Most had commercial space on the first floor ...

Barcelona: Gaudilicious

One of the main reasons to visit Barcelona is to check out the Modernist architecture, a movement that gained significance in the second half of the 19th century and thrived here like nowhere else in the world. With more than 110 sites scattered around the city, it is an architect's heaven and since I have more than a passing ...

Lauantai-illan ruuhka Barcelonassa

Barcelona

We have made our way from Valencia to Barcelona yesterday without incident. it took us about 4 hours and cost 20 Euros in motorway tolls, which we hadn´t quite expected but arrived at the campsite that we will be staying at for the next 5 or 6 days, whilst we go to the Barcelona Grand Prix. The Circuit is only a few Km´s away so we should have no problem getting to it on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday. We spent the night listening to a dog barking and a couple of Spaniards putting up ...
