... to walk around for hours in. So there! We decided to take a day trip to Leipzig, a smaller city just a little over an hour by train south of Berlin. We opted out of the closer and quite popular option of Potsdam which is known for it's palaces and long expanses of beautiful parks. Walking around parks in 6 inches of snow (in sneakers for Jonathan... Ha!) didn't sound like a good plan. Leipzig didn't necessarily mean less waking, however. ...

It was in this city that we realized Germany has lots of extravagant bookstores with amazing assortments of books new and old. Needless to say, we spent loads of time in bookstores...

Today we traveled to Eisleben, Martin Luther's hometown full of Lutheran history. Martin Luther was born and died in Eisleben. The St. Peter and Paul Church where he was baptized was on our stop. We were able to go in and see the amazing renovations that have been done to the historic church. While there is a new baptismal font the original one used in Luther's baptism was still there.

Trains from 9am-5pm to get to the other side of Germany. Loooong trip via Frankfurt and Cologne, but it was very interesting to see the countryside. It was Beautiful through the Rhine Valley.
