Getting there is half the fun...

June 23, 2005, 4 am Airplanes Suck, but Air France food is acceptable At 4:00 am, Eric's fifty-five alarms drive him out of the bed in San Francisco. Bill-who was the most important alarm-- also calls, just to make sure Eric really is up. Already packed, and ready to step out the door, Eric is already missed by the cats, who thoughtfully leave him with parting gifts of an organic nature on the living room floor. Delay number 1. But, he gets on the road and makes it Bill's house, where the car...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Konig Von Ungarn Vienna

Excellent choice in Vienna

from jolz
My family and I picked this hotel on the basis of the reviews in a number of guide books and we was not disappointed. We got a room facing the street but we couldn't hear any traffic noise at night. We stayed for 5 nights. The triple room was very generous in size. There was plenty of room for the rollaway bed and our large suitcases and there was still room for a small sitting area.

The breakfast (included in the room tariffs) consisted of excellent cold buffet and cooked-to-order hot food. However, service was a bit slow and borderline on non-existent. We had to wait a fair while for a waiter to come and take our order for hot drinks and food. But then, we were busy at the buffet anyway. Restaurant service at dinner was miles better and food was excellent.

Location of the hotel is great for tourists. We visited in the middle of a very cold winter (-12C during the day), but we could still walk to many of the attractions within the city.

Although the front desk service was far from warm and friendly, we found the staff to be very efficient. We ordered concert tickets and had no problem. They were also very help in ordering a taxi on our departure.

I would recommend to anyone visiting Vienna.

Very Snotty Staff at Front Desk

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at this hotel with my elderly mother for a few days in May. The hotel is lovely. The staff at the front desk, however, are extremely snotty. As a result, I would never stay here again or recommend it. First, on our last day, the guy at the desk suggested that we take public transportation to the train station to avoid traffic caused by the Vienna marathon. When I asked that he instead call a taxi, because I didn't think my mother could handle public transportation, he continued to tell me how difficult it would be to get there. I finally had to insist that he call a taxi, which he did very reluctantly. (We got to the train station in the taxi without any difficulty.) Second, I was charged for an extra day even though I cancelled more than a week in advance.

Fit for a King...and a Queen!!

My wife and I were on our honeymoon and made Vienna our second stop on a five stop trip. One would ordinarily expect a hotel of this calibur to be located on a busy street, but The Hotel Konig Von Ungarn was on a rather quiet street. However, looks were deceiving for this hotel was in a class all by itself. With a wonderful dining room, we were able to start our days with terrific European breakfasts to include various meats, cheeses, pastries and that is just a hint of all that was offered. We had received a complimentary bottle of champagne and little dessert cakes the first night the concierge knew of our purpose for travel. Each night following we received the little cakes and could not believe the hospitality from the front desk all the way to the chambermaid not forgetting the lightning-fast service we received with our bags upon check-in and check-out. My wife and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Vienna area.

Delightful hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at this hotel 3 times over a period of 6 weeks as we used it as our base for our holiday. The location was amazing so close to St Stephens Cathedral a 20 second walk. The hotel had old world charm. It was very clean. My only concern was that the shower was over a high bath and my elderly parents had trouble stepping into the bath as there were no railings. The staff were very helpful and they served the most delicious breakfasts on our trip.

Good choice in Vienna

Nice hotel choice in an ideal location in Vienna. Nice rooms with plenty of space. High end hotel but not super-luxury. Much more reasonable than the other top hotels in the city.

Can't imagine better

I just returned from Vienna last week, where I was fortunate enough to spend a few nights at this hotel. It was a wonderful experience, from the helpful, courteous staff to the regal, spacious rooms. Perfect location to boot! Would never stay anywhere else.

Incredible choice

from Tennisgirl
We loved this hotel. Our room was a 2 story "apartment" with plenty of room for 2 adults and kids. The decor was rich and lovely befitting the setting. The staff was pleasant as well and the location couldn't be better. The shopping areas and old town surrounded the hotel providing many excellant walks. Make sure that you stop at the Sacher cafe for a slice of sacher torte- heavenly.

One of the Best Hotel Experiences Ever!

The Konig is an amazing Hotel. It is steps away from Stephansdom and within walking distance to all the sights as well as the metro. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated with crystal chandeliers and large windows. The beds have feathery down conforters and plush pillows. On arrival you will find chocolates and exquisite soaps in the resplendant bathroom.

The hotel's beautiful restaurant served equally incredible fare. The walls are painted in tones of bright orange and yellows and decorated with exotic flowers and antique prints. Our coats were taken from us and our chairs pulled. The host, noticing that we didn't speak Dutch came to our table and translated the menu while making recommendations.

The food was absolutely delicious and the dessert was amazing!

Service at the Konig is top class. The concierge was very attentive and made many reservations for us, even for concerts that were sold out.

This is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous accomodations, incredible service and a fabulous restaurant in the heart of Vienna. We would definitely go back!

Perfect Hospitality in Vienna

from Transport
During a month in Europe, we ended two weeks of driving/hiking through the Alps with a 3-night stay in Vienna's Konig von Ungarn Hotel. Being tired and in need of pampering, we could not have been more pleased.

This was the best overall hotel experience of our trip.

Staff were extremely courteous and helpful from the time we drove up, providing useful information, making reservations around town immediately when asked, and quickly meeting our every request for little amenities.

The hotel atmosphere is perfectly old-world Europe. The rooms are built around a wonderful Atrium designed to look like a courtyard enclosed by several buildings. Live trees complete the charming courtyard atmosphere.

The room was surprisingly spacious and elegantly decorated, with a large and well-appointed bathroom. In summer 2002, all fabrics and carpets were new. We would have expected to pay nearly double the price for the accommodations and level of service we received.

We had several outstanding meals in the superb in-house restaurant. The menu features great variety, highlighting game and traditional Viennese specialties. And it was unique among our European dining experiences in providing a thoughtful and creative menu for a vegetarian (better even than Vienna's famous vegetarian restaurant, Wrenkh). Service is friendly and unpretentious. The included breakfast buffet was one of the most generous we encountered.

In future trips to Vienna, we will stay and dine at the Konig von Ungarn again and again. A truly excellent hotel.

We felt like the royalty.

This hotel lived up to and exceeded all reviews we had read. The staff treated us like royal guests, the price was reasonable and the location was superb. I highly recommend this attractive smaller property over the larger more well known hotels of Vienna.
