Day 4: East meets West, Crossing Continents...
Mar 30, 2008 (22 photos)

The cross-roads of the two most influential continents in the world come together here... of all places, in Istanbul. The Bosphorous Strait, separating Turkey into two and essentially connecting the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, is the intersection of East and West. Ironic how this worked out, considering our Asian heritage, we really felt...

Istanbul, Day 3: a Lawyer's perspective...

After my lovely wife's description of what we saw today, let me give you the low down on what seeing two mosques, a spice bazaar, and traveling the streets of modern Istanbul meant to me... So the morning was greeted by a breakfast buffet after a night of trying to get the internet to work correctly at the hotel again. Despite my attempts, the i...

Istanbul, foreign land for foreigners...

Since our lavish adventure on Air France, we boarded our three hour flight from Paris to Istanbul. Jill commented on how CDG (Charles de Gaulle) was so fascinating from an architectural standpoint. The entire airport, looks very modern with very simple architecture mixed with the use of solid colors. The aculmination is a user-friendly, practica...

¡Qué hotel tan excelente!

from BMW_7 on 2007-06-27
Saludos, Margarita Westergard, Suecia.

Estupenda ubicación y personal agradable

from greent on 2007-06-27

from andinakelemen on 2007-06-26

Staff excellence

from steveisrael on 2007-06-26
We are two couples (older in age younger at spirit). We stayed six nights at the Orient Express (truly an outstanding value - highly recommended - very near the Konak). Following one night break they moved us to their upgraded hotel for four nights at the Orient Express rate. The Sircegi Konak is a new hotel still taking care of final arrangements. Its location is central to tourists' places of great interest (location, location, location). Its staff is truly outstanding and most helpful.

Rooms are spacious. The new Hammam - men and women in one spot - is free, pay only for massage - and is tasteful. Rooms are very nice size. Modern decor is attractive. Breakfast is sumptuous. All in all it provided us with an excellent experience. True it's more expensive than the Orient Express but it's luxury is clear.

Getting back to the airport ask hotel for reasonably priced transport

Want to be treated as royalty?

If you want the best hotel in Istanbul, stay at the Sirkeci Konak hotel in Gulhane, Istanbul. Great location, antique style, brand new, imaculately clean facilities, excellent accommodation and very helpful and courteous staff.

During our stay the friendly staff patiently took the time to help resolve lost property issues, gave us directions to destinations we wished to visit and listened to personal problems not related to the hotel. Concierge and cleaners were also very friendly and helpful.

Within this period we took advantage of our hotel facilities, such as the turkish bath, pool, sauna, spa, gym and massage room. It was very difficult for us to seperate ourselves from these facilities and see what we actually came here to see the wonderful city.

The lounge area is a great place to relax and enjoy refreshments. Service was excellent. For breakfast we were expecting just a few nibbles but breakfast was a lovely gourmet continental spread, with 5 different food presentations each day, such as traditional Turkish cheeses, fruits and nuts, pastries, soup, etc. It was very difficult to even think about food for the rest of the day!

Overall review - excellent value for money. We highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Istanbul.

We will miss the staff which we have made our friends...

A Gem of Hotel

from AmosKarrinyup on 2007-06-23
My wife and I stayed at this hotel in May 2007. We were originally booked at another hotel in the group, but were upgraded to the Sirkeci Konak on arrival.

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel , which is located in the Old Centre and very close to many of the major tourist attractions.

The Front Office, Porters, Dining Room and all other staff that we had contact with were very friendly and helpful.

The room was very clean and the aircon was efficient and most importantly, quiet.

Meals in the didning room were excellent and reasonably priced.

The hotel liaison officer, Petek Goker was absolutely delightful. She was very friendly, helpful and had an excellent command of the English language.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to any travellers who were not in the five star market.

If you would like to experience a Turkish Bath, Mustaffa's your man. It was an experience I will never forget.

Sirkeci Konak Istanbul

from ElenaGent on 2007-06-20
The new Istanbul Sirkeco Konak hotel is a must see ! The situation is perfect: next to the Topkapi Palace, close to Saint Sophia ..

The service is very unique. You feel like you are at home with your family / friends around you. A highly individual treatment makes your stay extremely pleasant .The fine breakfast buffet and nice restaurant (in Summer you can have diner on the roof terrace !) are very appealing. A massage or treatment in the hotel Hammam is a perfect way to end your day in Istanbul !

What an excellent hotel!

I have stayed at Sirkeci Konak June 6-11 2007 and it's a pleasure for me to share my experiences of the hotel.

Everything functioned very well. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The personnel and the service were excellent. I received all the assistance I could wish for at all hours and by all categories of the personnel and always in a very friendly way. When returning after long days out of the hotel it was like coming home. The atmosphere in the hotel is warm and welcoming.

I want to convey my thanks to all personnel for making my stay so enjoyable and congratulate the management for having created a hotel environment with the qualities mentioned above.

Best regards,

Margareta Westergård, Sweden

Ottima ubicazione, personale accogliente

from greent on 2007-06-10

Great location, friendly staff

from greent on 2007-06-10
This hotel is in a great location for sightseeing, only 5-10 minutes walk to Topkapi, the Blue Mosque & Aya Sofya or down to the railway station and some ferry terminals.

The tram stop is two minutes from the hotel and will take you to the Bazaar and onwards or down over the Galati Bridge to Kabatsh which is only 5 minutes from the Dolmache Palace. At Kabatsh you can take the Funicuular up to Taxsim Sq.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel was spotless despite some finishing work being done to this new hotel.

Plenty of choice for breakfast althought I cannot comment on dinner as I did not eat in the hotel of an evening.

I was upgraded from a sister hotel so received superb value for money although for the going price it is still good value having a pool and sauna and being very comfortable.
