First we started with buckwheat tea, then miso soup which is the best we have ever tasted with silken light tofu, then the Oyaki followed by hand made fresh sobu noodles which you eat cold. Walked to Matsumoto castle, an amazing old wooden castle, shoes off, and walked up the 6 levels. Some stairs were very steep, almost vertical. Beautiful manicured gardens. After breakfast and photos Mr Yumoto drove us to the train. We went to Nagano then ran to catch an earlier train to Matsumoto, this caused much confusion at the gate but we made it . Boys relaxed in the hotel. We explored the town - nakamichi street and nawate street. Found the best indigo fabric shop ever, and bought some treasures, was also given lots of fabric gifts! Woke early and caught a taxi to Ueno station. JR Shinkansen to Nagano, then electric train on the Nagano dentetsuline to Yudanaka. Walked up to our accomodation - Shimaya. Mr Yumoto is very helpful.
