Seekord ma tean, kus olen näinud lennukis naeratavat noormeest - Tallinna lennujaamas.
... that I didnt have more time. Another reason to come back I guess. :) I booked a ferry from Riga to Stockholm. Went back to the hostel to chill until my departure, was cornered by that annoying Swede businessman, was bored out of my mind by the conversation and looked at my watch, which said 3:00. I looked up and the clock said 4:00. I was like, haha, that clock is off! I bet you know what happens next. I called a cab for 3 LV and rushed to the ...
Riga, Latvia sheryl.akagi... the Freedom Monument, Sigulda, House of
Blackheads, the Powder Tower, the Swedish gate, and the Riga Dome
Cathedral. The architecture is beautiful. In terms of the look and
feel of the city itself, Riga is what I imagined Prague to be but
wasn't. Walking around there was this cozy fall ora. There were so few
people out that the sound of a woman's high heals echoed from the an
alley a block away. Architecturally the city is stunning, there's no
doubt that ...
... again)! I had some Latvian beer and some mixed drink, I don't know
what the hell it was. The Latvians (and Norwegians) love their liquor!
I'm
excited to be here, I think I'm going to really like this city. Its
smaller and seems more "old Europe" and more removed from what I'm used
to
back home. Despite having a long day it was also a rejuvenating day. Theres
a strange thing that I love about travel challenges; maybe because its like Les Stroud, city style!
... we thought we would stop. Kuldiga is a very small slightly run down town, but it has a charm to it. The waterfall was very wide, but, it was about 1 meter tall, so I don't know if you would call it a waterfall or a rapid really, but hey, let them have it. We had some lunch there and a half litre of beer that only cost 1.50 Euros! There didn't seem much point staying on, so we decided to head to Lithuania. Miles so far: 4163
Kuldiga, Latvia laine... get my bearings and get supplies I return with the intention of cooking supper and getting an early night. Unfortunately the cookers on the Fritz and I get chatting to the staff and guests in the bar so I achieve neither of these objectives. James the Essex Barman who's lived in Riga for 3 years introduces me to the local specialty, Black Balsam (balm), somewhere between absinthe and Jaagermeister but jet black. The bar I will find ...
Kuldiga, Latvia markprendergast... 249m wide, I was expecting something moderately impressive. Ventas Rumba really isn't going to trouble the Iguazu Falls in Argentina or Niagara falls in Canada as a tourist attraction - they're only 2.1m high. I think that barely qualifies as a waterfall at all. Still, a good place to sit and contemplate life for a while before moving on.
Kuldiga, Latvia mrconfusedNot much to tell here. I'm still travelling with Jon towards Riga and now it's Latvia! Again different money, different funny language and different people. For once even differed kind of accommodation: There's another XY-Beach-Sea-Festival taking place and we've finally found accommodation in an old Soviet Military-Prison ...
Liepaja, Latvia redhive... the pastel paler colours. I have been used to yellows and bright blues but everything was pale pink, a few greens and blues and that was all. For elevenses I found a nice konditori, cake shop. They did hot chocolate to drink so I chose a nice fruit topped sticky cake to join it. No icecream today it's a bit cooler. I read the map that the tourist info had given me and realised that I had walked past a very important site. I had to go back to the river. The ...
