... day we get stuck with a flat to deal with before we drive to hora sfakion pronounced -***** ass fackeon- The kindness of strangers and a good rental company get us on our way. It's pouring. The roads are a bit slick so we follow the traffic to Virese, or virus if you like. Foreign language names are hard to remember so Paul calls it virus. Virus is the turning point for our next stop. It was a bridge too far then but not this time, 40 years later. This time we were staying in Hania which is the closest city to the Gorge. We booked a round trip bus from our hotel. Although the pickup time was earlier than a regular bus we were guaranteed ...

Day 1 was a driving and site seeing day. We arrived in Chania in mid afternoon which gave us enough time to get our bearings and spend most of the daylight hours around the lighthouse. Bob must have 500 pictures of this area including some fabulous sunset pictures. He has so many that when we found a tasteful tee shirt of Chania with an outline of the lighthouse I made him buy it! The official name of the lighthouse seems to be the ...
