... roads. I had complete free range of a whole island, where you can safely go wherever you want, without checking a map, as if you keep driving you’ll eventually end up somewhere you recognise. The landscape of the place is phenomenal, properly tropical jungles everywhere and vertical mountains jutting upwards into the sky. Houses completely isolated, surrounded by 20-30 metre tall coconut trees. It’s amazing to cruise through. I nearly ran over a monkey as 6 of ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia wispywanderer... at some point, which means staying close to the site. Bugger. Then we had all sorts of problems getting a helmet for the British guy, and could not get on the road until midday. Bugger.
Once we got going though, the day became much more fun. While the crew were checking out the cable car views, I went and sat with a 70KG Python for a photoshoot (and prized him off my similarly-sized willy...just kidding - he was smaller), then headed for a nearby waterfall, which was even ...
We were up nice
and early thismorning so the chinese lady didnt have to knock on our
door. We went out to meet her in the communal sitting area and she
made us breakfast and coffee (She spoiled us). We then waited for the
van to come and pick us up for our morning adventure. It arrived
right on schedule, 8:15am and we were greeted by a really nice but
quiet malay/german guy (son of the crazy german – who happened to
be sick so we never ...
... mesmerized by the marvels of nature that I spent 3 hours snorkelling around. There were corals of every shape and size, every colour, heaps of sea urchins, mega fat sea cucumbers, box fish (my favourite), puffer fish, crabs, moray eels, and so much more!! For the last episode of our marine adventure, we were guided up to shore to feed baby sharks.
Breakfast and sumptuous dinner were included in our package, fortunately, as we were ...
... fact that this is a duty-free island, most things are pretty cheap. The only source of quality entertainment we found was at Underwater World, at the risk of being uber-blunt twice in one post, it's a decently executed aquarium. Erm ..... up next Penang.
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia stephen.j.booth... have a very broad imagination. We started down the river and small mountain he called King Kong. With that thought in mind, you could see King Kong hundreds of feet tall, much fun. We saw many birds and then a large lizard on the banks. A bit further down the river, we stopped upon a group of small monkeys. Very interesting and we also saw 2-3 mother and baby combos. The mothers had pouches and the babies were black against the mothers lighter ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia nedk... than Penang as it was a lot more touristy- but it seemed to be quite a bit cheaper. In the morning we got up early and ran into the sea. What it would be like to wake up every morning and do that- bliss! We then had breakfast on our porch then walked to Underwater World. A huge aquarium, where they also had penguins. Their enclosure was quite good- as far as enclosures go. We watched them dive bombing in the water for ages. They were really funny! There were lots of fish and ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia aliandvicky... the many other travellers frequenting the bars. Basically i was nearly caught in a mass crush trying to get into the underground station after the very popular fireworks, so i bailed out and found the only safe way back to the bars and my hostel was to walk, and its a fair way! When i finally opened a door to a bar, it was that loud and that crowded and having not enjoyed the last crowd and being stone sober, i just cursed under my breath about New year ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia danhobson... a Russian restaurant ("Lankawi's only..."). It might be better in the high season. On to the cablecar, an impressive trip up to the peak at 700m. There are tourist shops at the bottom and lots of Malays having a good time. This is a Muslim country, so most women wear headscarves. There are a few ladies in the hotel with full veils who eat food (brought by their husbands from the buffet) by passing it up underneath the layers. We stop at a black ...
langkawi, Malaysia travelburnett... story. Lesson learnt - get tickets early, get on the ferry early and sit near the front of the ferry if you need to make a connection like that. These buses wait for no man! 4 and half hours later, we were in Krabi. If you love rock climbing - come here. Krabi looks amazing. We caught a taxi from the bus stop to the beach, where we caught a long tail boat out to Railay beach. Word of warning on the long tails - you will get wet. Our journey was rough, as the ...
