The Fastest Way Down a Mountain

... br>

Any way at the top I met an Indian man who owned a shop. Over Chai and a few bights to eat we began to talk. On my way down he passed me and offered to show me a shortcut back to the town of Basur. Imagine rock hopping down a waterfall... that was our path. We made the trip which took me 3.5 up in a bit over an hour.

My knees still feel it.

McLeod Ganj - Holy Himalaya

... d imagine them to look, but they still took our breath away. The temperature also dropped significantly, and by the time we got out of the bus we were actually wearing jackets.

Unfortunatley the bus dropped us off a few kilometers away from where we were heading, and we had to catch a taxi to the Dharamsala bus station. Oh-- Dharamsala isn't actually the home of the Tibetan Government, but for some reason this is the city that typically gets credit for that. Dharamsala ...

The place was jammed, but Anna and Jessica spotted us immediately and invited us to sit with them. They're back up in town for the weekend from the nunnery where they teach English, and their "Tibetan contacts" - two guys they've befriended, tipped them off about this afternoon ...

Trains, Mountains and Monk(ey) Business

... is nice, the food is great.... you know I've actually lost a few pounds? And it's not because I'm not eating, I'm actually eating healthier here than I have in my entire life.

We went to see the Dalai Lama's residence which wasn't as impressive as I thought but still lovely. It has a couple of temples inside where he does his meet and greets. Of course monks are everywhere and I really love being around them. They have such a ...

... were feeling a bit like celebrities so when I was asked for my autograph I was fairly unruffled and just graciously agreed. Bear in mind this was a man in his 20's not a young child. The children on the otherhand like to shake your hand or ask for a photo to be taken of them - very cute (even Iain said so). The lowlight of allthis attention though was a man in the market who was insisting on getting a kiss. At firts he wanted it on the mouth. When ...

... 14,000 ft (the Indus is around 11,000 ft), but about 8k short, with legs burning out, we saw a sign for "Home Stay" in a local house and decided that was good enough. The owner had a greenhouse with fresh spinach and also sold us some peas - the last green veggies we'd see for a while. Gorgeous full moon on the mountains that night, which made for some fun with the camera. Next day we met a couple Aussies coming down just as we were ready to leave. They gave us a LOT ...

... with an impressive chute of water flying off of the hillside. Here we sat for 3 hours wondering where our guys had gotten to. Eventually, around dusk, the stragglers made it to camp. Some had bypassed us somehow and ended up further down the trail, but some were just dead slow. This was not going to fly and we made our displeasure known to the guide and the hotel guy. It had become clear that the hotel guy ...

Arriving to more rain at 3 in the morning I found my bag, which had been on the roof, totally saoked, along with everything in it! The weather isn't much better in Manali but on Tuesday we enjoyed a nice walk to some massive waterfalls before running into Paul and Mary from our landcrusier in Tibet! Yesterday Ben and I hired a motorcycle and took off into the ...

... at 7.30pm the same day. The journey was long, cold (at night) and very bumpy but amazing. The views were always spectacular - snow capped mountains, golden 'hoo-doos', purple, red, orange and brown rocks and mountains, and further towards Manali the landscape becomes greener with lots of trees and as the snow is melting - waterfalls and rushing rivers. Manali is a very touristy (and for good reason as it is very picturesque - snow ...
