      ... to know what he was doing, I haven't been in one of these since 20 years and didn't.

      The Island was probably 3 or 4 far away and across a busy (sometimes) straight. Great Idea so to try to kayak there. In addition my Kayak also had a leak which allowed water to enter the hull and made the paddling even harder...
