Beware The Savage View, From 1982

... were ice cold, but once you got moving, you hardly noticed.

This turned out to be one of the most fun parts of the journey and a nice break for our now very sore legs - since climbing the chains, is much more an upper body workout then a lower one.

At the top you could climb climb just a little past the chains up to a rock peak with breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. It was quite a hair-raising experience standing up there in the sky above ...

Kochi: Rainy Festival Season

... a demon fought a group of sword wielding priests. Guess who won... Was so tired and cold after the festival, I totally dropped at the hostel, which was the nicest I've stayed at so far. Very clean, very open and the proprietor is a sake enthusiast. He had a tasting session, which I decided not to do, but it seemed like fun. Hopefully will sleep deeply today because I've got a ton of train travel tomorrow. Tomorrow: Uchiko and Matsuyama -mike

Went to bed that night ****** and now very trusting in the kindness of strangers. 5. NICK: Saijo Festival

... one is on wheels, and the other is carried by a lot of people underneath it. Both are elaborately carved, heavy, and really big. They're also surrounded by drunken men dragging them thru the streets. We parked the car after we'd found where a bunch of them were sitting still. There were apparently quite a few starting points, especially since this small town had to hold approximately 80 of these shrines. We parked in ...

It was clear he hadn't shed his "Thrillsy" ways (most memorable for me from our Indonesia tour of duty in 2001), as he was still nursing a floating rib after an awesome snowboarding stack and as often as possible would head to the coast during a typhoon while the rest of the population headed the other way. His ...
