... trees, with two sturdy chains to hang on to and reasonably good footholds...most of the time ( there were a few somewhat smooth and even slippery bits ). The real "kowai" ( japanese for scary ) bit was yet to come. The climb across the jagged ridge from Misen to Tengudake at 1982m. Only Saffiya, Doug and I ended up climbing across for various reasons, including miscommunication. There is one more very small piece of chain leading down from the very stable and flat ...
Saijo, Shikoku, Japan astralcars... than blah. From Okayama took the express down to Kochi, on the south face of Shikoku. We passed through some of the best scenery I've seen to date, mostly because Shikoku is not really developed or inhabited especially in the Iya valley region in the middle of the island. I was sleeping on and off and woke up to use traveling along a massive gorge and strung across it was a string of carp banners and windsocks (around Koboke I guess ...
Kochi, Shikoku, Japan mchao... mentre fuori diluviava. Baci a tutti!
Kochi, Shikoku, Japan shantimanbrianne made the mistake of NOT coming home and sitting right down to enter these details.... so now she barely recalls them :( ~but to make a long story short.... my friend shannon copp (a shiga JET) invited myself and two other shiga JETs (Nan, and Anna) to ...
Shikoku, Japan brianneinjapan... labour and a number of American prisoner of war soldiers who were not known to be in the area. They burn a flame at the site and it is supposed to be extinguished when the last nuclear device is destroyed. I guess unfortunately it might as well be an eternal flame. From Hiroshima I bulleted my way to Okayama.
HIROSHIMA, Japan sgaudunJust returned from a two day trip to Hiroshima. As I don't want to run the risk of making this entry read like a piece entitled 'My Summer Holiday' written by a year 8 student (God, I don't miss correcting those!), I've broken my trip down into the five most memorable events. Grab a coffee, sit back and come on down to ye olde Hiroshima with me! 1. SHINKANSEN This is the iconic form of bullet train in Japan, and it was with great excitement that I took it to ...
Hiroshima, Japan andskye... wanted to explore. Then we followed the shouts and screams of other Danjiri and then went following after those. The entire central area of the city of Saijo was completely closed. My guess is that everyone was out pulling a danjiri or taking picture of people pulling danjiri. The covered shopping arcade area was interesting in that we watched these 20 foot tall sculptures navigate their way thru a 20 foot tall arcade ...
Saijo, Japan niknash... weather, driving on the left is simply not easy. Masaki's polite tones took on a nervous edge after the first few minutes. Judging my distance from the centerline was easy, it's that left side that kept him gripping his armrest and saying 'too close, too close!'. Just when i thought all was well, ssskkkkrrreeeeeeeeeeee we scrape left hubcaps against the curb. After a couple hours of ultra-winding, exceptionally-narrow threading ...
Shikoku, Japan mondobri... didn't see many scars on their fur, and they looked like big normal dogs. I should have taken a picture of their cages. They had memorabilia of the dogs collars, pictures, and the first dogs bred into modern Tosa dogs. They then led us to the puppy corral where they kept the future fighters. They showed them with their fighting training gear, and once again, the thought of taking pictures of the puppies escaped me. We pet the dogs and left. I would say that it's not really something ...
