... super confused. The street is pretty big and it cracked me up what was on it. I saw blockbuster, burger king, KFC, McDonalds, American Apparel, Fossil, and all these American stores. We did some browsing but no purchases were made. At the end of the street you hit the water where all the canals are. We ended up taking a canal tour and got to see the opera house, military base, Little Mermaid (who is extremely tiny, though I was prepared for this) - on a side note next to the little ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark sarahmarie... on this ever so important mission. We’ve been enjoying cozy late-night work sessions by the wood stove, which is a highlight for sure. By late-night, I mean, it is 4:25am right now, as I write this.
This year’s CYD is a force to be reckoned with. They are some of the most intelligent, passionate, creative, forceful, reasonable, determined and compassionate people I have ever met. I have been observing how hard they work, how ...
... Gluhwein (called Glogg here), an incredible quiche, caprese salad (photos coming soon), and amazing super salad and cake... it was a great few days.
Went for a few runs to deal with the caloric intake and got to see most of the town and the surrounding countryside that way. We ran up the one and only hill in Lund and could see windmills in all directions, as well as the sea! It was really gorgeous ...
... the first question many Danes as is, "Why Denmark?" I suppose since many others choose large cities like London or Paris to study abroad in it could appear strange to choose a more modest location; however, my reply is usually, “Why not?” Testament to the couple we met, the Danish people are so friendly and welcoming and being American in Denmark, however puzzling to the locals, has allowed me to explore a laid-back and quaint piece of Europe.
Bornholm, Denmark annalise.m... lasagna at the hostel and then took showers. There was a "social" event that evening; our room went but then Caroline and I left early. On our way back to the room we could see the sun setting up ahead and followed it to watch the sunset. There were quite a handful of people (locals) who came to watch including our leaders who we could see on the dock. It was so beautiful and I couldn’t believe all that we had done in just one day! It seemed like one of the longest and most ...
Bornholm, Denmark annalise.m... a swarm of them devouring apples that had piled on the path. There were some scary moments but they were interested in the apples, not us and we did not get stung. Blackberry bushes laden with fruit were everywhere and we enjoyed snacking on them as we traipsed along. One could see why Bornholm is the tourist destination that it is for Swedes and other Scandinavians. What a wonderful place to enjoy summer!
Bornholm, Denmark lacasarodante... so now we have an extra sea day. We spent the day in the casino and just resting. We had signed up on the ship for the "Sommelier Dinner", a special dinner that has seven courses, with a taste of a different wine with each course. It was fabulous, starting with seared ahi, an entree of filet mignon, a huge wheel of stilton blue cheese that they had infused with port wine, and a nice dessert ...
Bornholm, Denmark hagatha... also free and almost everything is open to roam around in...unless it leads to a big cliff/pit and is off limits. Anyways, we took lots of touristy photos. We also got some funny looks from people as they aren't used to seeing American tourists in this area. All the info signs were only in German and ...
Hammershus, Denmark sarahindenmark... is their lack of windows...and obviously the roundness. They are about three stories tall, though only the first story is functional as a church. The only windows are small openings and arrow slits. You are free to roam through all the levels of the church. The church doubled as defense for the surrounding areas. If the town came under attack, people could hide out in the upper levels of the church and defend ...
Osterlars, Denmark sarahindenmark... in. Here's the view from the bus stop. In the town of Gudhjem, there's lots of touristy cute places...and it's CHEAP compared to Copenhagen. I bought a troll shot glass. Trolls are a symbol of Bornholm. I also got some presents. They had a glass blowing shop and the first toffee shop in Denmark, with free samples. Also, lots of handmade everything from jewelry to art to sweaters. And lots of ice cream places which I took advantage of.
