... gave us an opportunity to know new friends and get excited about the adventure in front of us.....Our truck, named Mabel was an enormous Scania with a massive carriage on the back where we would be spending lots of time over the next 10 months. Our tents were comfortable and sturdy dome style and easily erected once we knew how. The kitchen was well equipped and the truck accessories basic but funtional. More than enough to survive the rigours of Africa.
Life was good.
... were throwing objects such as rocks and chairs at the storefronts. Within a minute, all stores were closed and all traffic came to a halt. The security guard showed us a narrow passageway that led to our hotel. We quickly ran for cover. We went inside and played Scrabble for the rest of evening. Basically a self imposed curfew.
That was our first impression of the Arab spring.
