Tuesday morning we were up at 7.30am to check out and catch the courtesy bus to the transit centre where we picked up the Oz bus to continue our journey up the East Coast. We stopped at Hervey Bay for lunch which is where we dropped off most people on the bus because Hervey Bay is where most people go from for their Fraser Island trip. We picked up just as many people though as the buses are still really busy going up the coast. In the afternoon we made a supermarket stop so April and I decid...
Cairns, Australia adeleHeidi and I flew from Brisbane to Cairns for our Easter Break, also known as "study week". The fly up to north Queenland took about 3 hours and we stayed at the Koala Beach Resort which was the best hostel I've stayed at thus far! Great friendly service and they had a pool! Day 1 We spent the day at Cap Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest. We also got a chance to swim in the Mossman River Gourge on our 2 hour, van ride still more north into the bush. We took a trip on the Daintree River a...
Cairns, Australia ajskalicky'Tropical' North Queensland is an interesting place. With the beautiful Cape Tribulation, the Great Barrier Reef and other exotic tourist attractions, it is a must to see and where appropriate, do. However, there are also a lot of very strange people in this part of the world. Sure, you get oddballs everywhere; I've seen two people have a fight in a McDonald's in Wellingborough over the monopoly stickers that come with the drinks and chips, and you only have to walk through Peterborough town ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia alwill1G'day! Hope you're all well! Jenny and I have now ventured way up north to Cairns. Our 10 hour bus ride was something I definitely don't want to do again for sometime! We made it into Cairns at about 7:30pm and then waited around for the hostel bus to show up, which never did happen so we trekked down the street with our bags and a few other girls that happened to also be on our boat in the Whitsundays. We made it to Koala's and checked in before going out to grab a quick bite and then going ...
Cairns, Australia brianajess If everything is according to plan, I should be landing now at cairns' (pronounced 'keinz') airport.
Spent my first day here lying around the lagoon and searching for a diving course. No one here swims in the sea - tide cause the ground turn to mud for most of the day, and there are poisonous jellyfish ("stingers") and crocodiles.
took a 4-day open-water diving course at "down under dives". the instructor, Corey, is a nut-case. after the dives I was pretty tired (I mean wrecked), still ...
Jan. 4, 2007 Early in the morning we check into the Koala Beach Resort in Cairns city center. Not an arbitrary choice but the third place we tried to get find a vacancy, each time going up the price scale. Still not a bad place, but cost $70/nite Australian, and has a nice pool in the court yard. [GPS 16 55.197S 145 46.439E from the street in front] There is no beach near here though. We cleared out the van and take it to the Wicked depot to turn in and got our deposit back with no problem. W...

Cairns, Queensland, Australia minnieyorkNo trip to Australia would be complete without spending time in, on or around the Great Barrier Reef. To make the most of Melissa's last week in country, we flew from Brisbane on Friday and had a full week to play with before her to departure the following Friday. While our skill level definitely differed with surfing, we both could scuba dive so we decided to kick off the week with a 3 day live aboard dive boat experience. After arriving in Cairns and staying the first night in ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia slpbls... our home. Quickly I was gaining friends, needed friends. Jenny and I allowed Lance to talk us into a go at scuba diving. I wanted to see the Reef from every angle possible, and diving seemed a good way to do it. Although Jenny couldn't master equalizing her ears, I dove in with little problems. Lance and I ventured to the ocean floor with tanks on our backs, oxygen in our lungs, and smiles on our faces. They called it an intro dive, all I know ...
Cairns, Australia charliekelli... picks us up the camper is still not ready so he loans us his car and tells us he'll call us in a couple of hours when the camper is ready. So we go shopping for towels and food for our trip. A couple of hours pass and then another couple of hours pass and still no call so we end up just going back to the shop to see if we can hurry them along. We end up waiting for another hour but eventually were off. As its nearly 5 we decide not to bother driving too far so ...
