Knockninny Quay, Derrylin Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, BT92 9JU
Our first road trip this summer took us to the outskirts of Fermanagh to a little village called Kesh. We met up with my dear old friend Philip who took us to the pier to see the lough close up. Then it was onto the view point to see out across the lough and after that we went to a little forest park with some castle ruins. A very picturesque day indeed.
... then, maybe 30 years if they were lucky, so those that started the process wouldn't see it finished.
When it was finished, few would probably even be allowed inside. And few would fit either! It was a bit squeezy just in our tour group of about 20. And it would have been dark as, apart from those 5 days in the depths of winter, no daylight makes it into inner chamber. Sounds like a very exclusive night club to me!
But it was pretty impressive though ...
Heading back west, we set our sites on the town of Omagh where Sara's Irish relatives, the Slevins, live. Sara hadn't seen them since she had been in Omagh with her whole family back when she was fourteen. They run a bustling pharmacy in the town that has the unfortunate distinction of being right across from the spot where the 1996 IRA car bombing took place that resulted in the greatest number of casualties on record in ...
Omagh, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom jeffnsaraIt's raining, again! Off to the ferry and it's raining. I'm a little late and so they've already started boarding. That means I'm not one of the first ones on as they have a special place to attach the motorcycles. The workers seem a little distracted at this time and don't seem to be paying attention to me. This ferry is different from the others I've been on in that it's set up like a parking garage ramp. Cars are parked in an upwards spiral on this ramp. I follow the car ...
Omagh, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom cobra1899... stands since the days King James fought battles there. The sun shone that day and they all said "the American" must have brought the sunshine! Once again Jim saw God at work as he was able to meet Enri Nase, Albanian Regional Director who has been on an extended furlough to Ireland with his Irish wife. They will be going back in October, Lord willing. The work is very young there, but Enri has a lot of vision and organization to get a literature ministry going including the Emmaus courses.
Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom ecsflemings... superb coarse fishing, peace and tranquility. Bawn derives from "cattle -fort" in Irish. The Shannon River begins its 400 kilometer journey to the Atlantic Ocean here and we drove to where the Shannon- Erne waterway winds its path close to Bawnboy. There seemed to be a lot of local equestrian centres. We enjoyed dinner talking to another farmer and watching the antics of a "stag party" - same all over the world!!
Bawnboy, United Kingdom barboAm sitting in Omagh library using the internet as my mum and dad aren' tin the internet generation just quite yet! I have just got all my hair cut off in a Natalie Portman stylie. Am loving it but to those who have never seen my hair short..it' ll be a bit of a shock! I am meeting up with the Irish ...

Sligo, Ireland, Ireland aussiegirl83... town where there was little foot traffic. The tourist office lady was so excited to see us that we thought that she must not have had any visitors in months. She gave us all sorts of maps which "normally cost money." After around an hour of chatting... we were off to find a place to stay.... Unfortunately we only found B&Bs which seemed a ...
Monaghan, Ireland ash7601... might be nice to keep with the barren landscape theme and head for a peninsula a little above Connamerra, but turns out that the Achill sound and peninsula brings a new meaning to barren landscape - unfortunately it wasn't the same. Quite boring really. Didn't linger there very long, and decided to head for Sligo to have a look. It all went downhill from there, we thought we would take the scenic road - nup boring road, Sligo didn't have a good feel to it ...
