... amazement and gasps of pure astonishment as you take this claim in!!! Anyway, we set off on our journey onwards and upwards. The suburban roads gave way to a track which climbed at a surprisingly gentle incline through the deciduous woodlands and up to the peak. There, we were greeted by the more less ambitious tourists and locals who had driven their cars up in the normal way. There sure enough was the star, looking even more tacky from ...

The beauty of having a small car was in its petrol consumption, I don't think we spent much more than $100 for the entire trip, the price of which in the main was $2.20 a gallon (about 1.50 sterling) and remember thats gallons! We always choose a Walmart if possible, for toilet, stock up and fuelling opportunities. In the U.S. they also have 'Rest Stops' which provide very clean toilets, vending machines and picnic areas about every 50 miles, these are very good to pull in for a stretch ...

Got up early to go for a walk. The lobby had a very long line of Africans who have been attending a conference. Also police and Secret Service everywhere. Some in suits and some in uniform, some with bulletproof vests on. Concierge said that Obama was attending the conference to give the Keynote speech. Hung around but didn't see him enter. Very posh hotel. Had Rudy Valley play at it, Beatles stayed there and lots of Presidents and other famous people. Today we went out to ...
