... I will write for a while, or at least until we return to Pensacola. We will be busy celebrating the holidays with family and friends and doing mundane things such as making doctor's appointments, hair appointments and pedicures (the latter is for me as Bart does not get pedicures in case you wondered). Today was another beautiful day. It started out chilly and foggy but the sun quickly burned off the fog. Given the time change, we slept through most of the fog due to rising later in the day. We relaxed a bit, had breakfast and then headed downstream to the lock at Watt's Bar. I must say we locked in almost perfectly this time, due to Capt. Bart's precise steering and a perfect toss by the first mate onto the mooring posts. Once we left Watt's Bar lock, the trip was smooth ...

... a deer swimming across the lake. Poor thing was being followed by a fisherman in his boat but the fisherman finally let the deer swim in peace. Bart was no doubt thrilled with his romantic gift of an electric fish knife and metal glove. Oh the good times he will h have hacking away at the fish we catch. All in all, the second day of our journey was a good one with smooth cruising all around.

Today was the first day of our big adventure. We have been preparing our boat for this journey for many years. ... so that was a bust. If we'd known the chairlift wasn't running we most likely would have headed farther south before camping. There was a path behind the closed visitor's center out to an overlook so we took that. The tunnel itself was pretty amazing, however. Eroded out by water, some 800+ feet big enuf for a train and a stream beside it. I was pretty frustrated with the wet tent. The morning sun didn't hit our site so we hung around til 11:15 to give it a good shot ...
