It's Flag Day and my flag of choice is a giant banner that reads, "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!"

I celebrated at Mom's with a good book, Lifetime movies (murder & mayhem, not sappy), and pistachio cake. She even let me have the gooey center pieces - quite possibly because she saw what happened when The Nightmare Nanny didn't get her way.

Here in Fort Madison, Iowa (my hometown) packing snacks for the trip. Costco visit (thanks Julie & Nevaeh) yielded enough granola bars and salted nut rolls to grow very tired of them forever. Along with 16 lbs of a homemade fruit & nut mix, and protein in the form of tuna, turkey jerky, and cheez-its. I give the cheez-its one ...

The school was a lot of fun....it was K-4 (the perfect age group for his program) and John had up to 45 minutes with them, so he was able to work on some things that he and Ryan & Steve had discussed last weekend when we were with the show. Up early this morning for another long day. Only stops we made were for food and fuel and a photo stop beside the Mississippi River before heading to Keokuk for the night. After dinner we walked down to the river and watched a tug push barges into the lock, one o 23 locks on the river.

Along the back roads there is corn field after corn field, the shopping centre was surrounded by a corn field.
