I was happy with my choice for the Knights Inn, Marina District, San Francisco - it is an excellent location very near the Presidio and a short bus ride, or 35 min walk, to the Marina wharves and good food abounds. The room was clean and tidy and had a good sized bar fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities and the owners are very helpful. My only gripe was that there could have been a security chain or such on the door for extra security over and above the door lock while asleep, and the windows could do with either security screens or a window lock allowing the windows to be opened 6" safely for fresh air.

The next day I wandered down to the wharf area and stumbled upon a lovely wine bar and ..... well .... when in Rome .....! So I treated myself to a tasting of 4 California whites and came away more impressed with Aussie whites than I already was beforehand. Only one of the 4 excited me in any real way and that was as much because it was a grape …

As I said in my previous entry - I arrived in San Francisco 20 mins before I left Sydney. However the price for that 20 extra minutes of youth is (now) 6 days of erratic sleep patterns - I'm all over the place. I go to sleep at around 22:30 and wake up around 02:30. Sit up and do FB updates until about 04:00, fall asleep again and wake up around …

    ... all a bit uncomfortable.
Fishermans wharf was a busy gross example of touristy overpriced restaurant's and souvenir shops. Loads of tourists looking at tourists and tourist shops. A few quirky interesting things go, but too much noise, and too many people for it to be enjoyable.
We extracted ourselves from this Hotspot, and ambled further along, past buskers and street entertainers, eventually finding refuge upstairs in a cafe for a cup of tea, which is ...

... something since it's a pretty big deal to shut down the entire San Francisco airport. At any rate, our flight was delayed by 40 minutes. They're trying to make up the time while we're in the air - and I hope they do because we have a pretty tight connection in Denver. We'll keep you ...

Day 89 - Exploring SF! We fuelled up on a Dutch breakfast of cheese and biscuits (Yosemite leftovers!) before heading out to explore the city. It was a bit overcast but it promised to burn through later so we were feeling hopeful. We had decided to take on SF by foot, but instead of opting for a guided walking tour, we preferred to explore ourselves. We set the Nike running app to track us so that we could see how far we'd gone at the end of the day. We walked from Castro to ...
