Great location, lovely helpful owners, comfortable rooms

I was happy with my choice for the Knights Inn, Marina District, San Francisco - it is an excellent location very near the Presidio and a short bus ride, or 35 min walk, to the Marina wharves and good food abounds. The room was clean and tidy and had a good sized bar fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities and the owners are very helpful. My only gripe was that there could have been a security chain or such on the door for extra security over and above the door lock while asleep, and the windows could do with either security screens or a window lock allowing the windows to be opened 6" safely for fresh air.

The next day I wandered down to the wharf area and stumbled upon a lovely wine bar and ..... well .... when in Rome .....! So I treated myself to a tasting of 4 California whites and came away more impressed with Aussie whites than I already was beforehand. Only one of the 4 excited me in any real way and that was as much because it was a grape …

As I said in my previous entry - I arrived in San Francisco 20 mins before I left Sydney. However the price for that 20 extra minutes of youth is (now) 6 days of erratic sleep patterns - I'm all over the place. I go to sleep at around 22:30 and wake up around 02:30. Sit up and do FB updates until about 04:00, fall asleep again and wake up around …

      DAY 76
Easter Sunday is a bit different in America and things like shops and other businesses remain open so its a bit of a strange experience.
We boarded the bus to go to Golden Gate Bridge in the morning and watched an Easter parade in the afternoon.
The Golden Gate Bridge is impressive, if not for its physical appearance then certainly for it's achievement as a unique piece ...

... and provide 360 degree views of the city from the summit peak, to which we climbed! The other notable feature of Mount Davidson is the 103-foot concrete cross situated on the crest of the hill. It is the site of a yearly prayer service, performed on Easter, when the cross is illuminated and can been seen peeking out from the trees when on the ground below.

... the museum we managed to get a cable car down to Union Square. I was glad we didn't get one down there as the queues were insane.

Next we had our Alcatraz tour which we had booked months ago because it's not usually possible to get tickets on the day. So we got the metro and trams to the Alcatraz landing port.We border the ferry over to the island which was incredibly windy and cold up top but had good views of the island.Alcatraz was a high ...
