I was happy with my choice for the Knights Inn, Marina District, San Francisco - it is an excellent location very near the Presidio and a short bus ride, or 35 min walk, to the Marina wharves and good food abounds. The room was clean and tidy and had a good sized bar fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities and the owners are very helpful. My only gripe was that there could have been a security chain or such on the door for extra security over and above the door lock while asleep, and the windows could do with either security screens or a window lock allowing the windows to be opened 6" safely for fresh air.

The next day I wandered down to the wharf area and stumbled upon a lovely wine bar and ..... well .... when in Rome .....! So I treated myself to a tasting of 4 California whites and came away more impressed with Aussie whites than I already was beforehand. Only one of the 4 excited me in any real way and that was as much because it was a grape …

As I said in my previous entry - I arrived in San Francisco 20 mins before I left Sydney. However the price for that 20 extra minutes of youth is (now) 6 days of erratic sleep patterns - I'm all over the place. I go to sleep at around 22:30 and wake up around 02:30. Sit up and do FB updates until about 04:00, fall asleep again and wake up around …

... very kind of Jill.  By the time dinner was finished (completed by a wonderful lemon pie made from the lemons in the backyard), got the bags in and got the kids off to bed it was time to head that way ourselves. Another long day of travelling down, we marvelled at the change in Ashton. He began the journey refusing to walk into an elevator himself and not wanting to step on an escalator to having to be careful he didn't go on the elevator ...

... supermarket. Our transport back to San Fransisco covers dinner, so we needed something to snack on during the ride that wasn't as sweet or gross as breakfast. I found a roast beef wrap and a few other things, and we went back to the hotel to grab our bags.

We caught a taxi out to the bus terminal, where I found out that I had misread the departure time for our first bus. Basically instead of 2.35pm, I read 12.35pm; super awkward. Luckily there were a few little shops ...

... 8217;t let me down this time either; wine & cheese tastings in the basement on Monday night, Karaoke in the theatre room Tuesday nights (yes it has its own little cinema & yes I did a couple of songs) & endless free walking tours, pub crawls & events available – places like this make solo travel easy. We each have our own private room – Sam & I have our own bathroom each is simply fab!
