Auckland, New Zealand danielbower3New Zealand!!! I finally made it!!! I am currently in the biggest city in the country - Auckland. And at 1.2 million people, it's not even really that big. There's only 4 million people total, but there's 40 million sheep! And that's all in two islands that together make up the size of Colorado. The flight over here was quick...from Sydney it only took 2 ½ hours! I took a Chilean airline so everything was done in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. And the girl next to me was from Spain so I go...
Auckland, New Zealand jasiWalked through the oldest park around today, the Auckland Domain, circa 1845. Impressive New Zealand scenery. The view from the museum was cool.
Auckland, New Zealand jutkkOur first day with our new travelling companions, Chris's mum (Ann) and Aunt (Pat), started with a walking tour of Auckland. This took in a number of the historic and cultural buildings of the city including parks, university buildings, artwork and administration buildings in the city centre. It was an interesting tour, but possibly a little too much for our still travel worn friends. When we reached the van, I think everyone was glad of the rest on the journey north. We travelled as far as K...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand nick.maynardHey everyone! Well i'm finally here after a stupidly long flight, spent at least 27hours travelling and i don't plan on getting on another plane any time soon! I'm staying at the Kiwi International Hostel, which seems ok so far but very quiet! There only seems to be about 10 people staying here at the moment, maybe it'll liven up later. Not feeling too jetlagged at the moment, just a bit weird. The view flying into the airport was awesome, all the coastal areas of North Island seem very spars...
Auckland, New Zealand noodle1505After a very smooth flight which went by quickly, we arrived in Auckland at 3AM ... instead of 4AM.. thanks to the wind that pushed us. For once, why can't we arrive later! :) Ah well! We got there fine, gone through immigration and customs fine and sat down and had breakfast in the airport until about 5am until we got up and thought it was late enough to get a shuttle bus to our hostel. We got to the Kiwi backpackers on upper Queen Street (main shopping street in Auckland, really nice street...

... worms. After 9 months, the glow worms turn into an adult and look like a mosquito, but they don't have a mouth so they can not eat. Then, they have about 3 or 4 days to mate before they die. Unfortunately we couldn't take any pictures in the cave or the glow worm grotto, so I can not show it to you. Then, we got back on the bus and ate lunch (kinda like the ones you get on airplanes). Soon, we arrived in a city called Rotorua and ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand erincastillo... a small grocer's shop that would service the area - quite different to the area now with its houses as described above and the modern shopping malls. These are the kind of museums we like so we stoppped off at a few more on the road north! First one we stopped at was in Matakohi - the Kauri Museum. It was terrific. It showed the early loggers working on the kauri forests - what beautiful wood it is. Some of the trees were nearly 2000 years old. The museum had rooms and ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand tanmsblog... face and they were buried under 200 tons of ice, they didn't stand a chance, but they should never have been there. 09.01.09 Friday. Due for our full day walk on Fox Glacier, weather forecast is not good, heavy rain by lunchtime. Jacqui phoned Fox Guiding to check situation after yesterday's tragedy and with forecast weather. Glacier is` closed to public access but still open for guided access, so after a hearty breakfast we set off for Fox ...
