    Kiwi International Hotel and Hostel

Reburbished backpackers with none of the charm of either a hotel or a backpackers. Dark and bit institutional feeling (was it an asylum in a past life). A little on the "Shutter Island" side of room. Has a bar/restaurant and an internet cafe, but didn't take advantage of either. The towels were very nice though, large and plush. But the sheets were thin and pilly. Very noisy at night, because our room faced the alley and it was a busy place at night. It is in a good location though right on Queen Street so it was a reasonable walk to all the downtown locations, including the Metro, the wharf, the Sky Tower, the City Library , the university and yes even the Auckland Domain. The woman who handled the visitors information and travelling details was very friendly and very helpful though. She is the only reason I can give the place 1 star.

This morning we slept in as long as we possibly could to try and catch up on some sleep- we have been so busy during this trip and our bodies are just starting to pay for it now. We are both feeling tight and sore after canyoning but still have enough get-up-and-go to ensure that our last day in NZ is incredible! Today we caught a ferry from the …

    A Day Exploring

We left the house by 9am for a full day out......

We spent time in Ponsonby sorting (the boring stuff): IRD numbers, letters to post, visit to the bank....yawn, yawn, yawn! Really like going to the bank, everyone is so friendly and you actually get to talk to real people, not to a machine! We met the bank manager who is also English and...
