... only left with a big bump and sore for a few days. The moral of my story? I bought a helmet for bike riding, but in hind sight I would recommend RV newbies to wear their bike helmet for their first week on the road :-). Back to our travels.... When we got up today we decided to visit the Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site which was just a few mile bike ride from our campsite in the state park; we got there a little too early so ...

Iowa is NOT flat.
We left the campsite in the morning to meet John in Stockton, where the farm he is staying this summer is. It was a cool ride along the Mississippi river. ... Met a real character of a lady who was 103. I had tried to open the door to the jewellery store but being an old building the door was stuck and the jeweller had to open the door but this good deed resulted with meeting this fascinating woman who told us her life story and then we stayed chatting to the jeweller who was also an interesting much younger woman. I really think we need 5 years here to see all we want to and to talk to all the interesting people we meet.

We departed Wichita this morning continuing north on Interstate 35 towards Kansas City and eventually arrived to Iowa for my first ever visit to the Hawkeye State as it's known. But I soon found that it is really all about the corn here: miles and miles of perfectly laid out cornfields in a beautiful deep green color - very pleasing to see driving down the road at 75 MPH.

We arrived in West Des Moines about 5pm to ...
