Today, we have our shuttle to Demre where we will begin our cruise. It's about 1.5 hours from Olympos. Breakfast at Byram's is a typical Turkish breakfast with made to order omelette. There are olives, yogurt, fruit, cheese, bread. There will be 13 of us on the gulet (Turkish sail boat) cruise on the Turquoise Coast. Judy and I are the oldest by 10 years! The next oldest is a couple from NZ. He is 56 ...

... to expect. As it turns out, we have to climb straight up a rocky path for 30 minutes in the dark to get to the flame area. I've been carrying my hiking sticks all over Europe. Do I have them tonight, when I really need them? No!!! The flames were very interesting, just poking up out of the rocks. People are sitting around cooking marshmallows and sausages on sticks over the flames. It's very fun. The walk down was not so fun. At one ...

... Where were the marshmallows when you need them! Again there is no way this would be allowed in Aus or NZ - there wasn't even anyone monitoring the area, just a random warning sign saying don't light more flames from the gas. After standing over each of the 20 or so flames, we headed back down the mountain - nick and Owen went shirtless it was so hot. Made it back to the car park, which now had the world largest dog chained up ...

... beach for some 100 meters till you get to the bunch of hotels& restaurants. Turn here into the village and when you get to the bridge follow the sign to the right. Just go straight forward along the road towards the mountains for about 4km. There are some ambiguous road crossings but you can ask people if you want to make sure. Soon you'll get to the entrance and can start walking up the ...

... Then after Antalya, as you head around the coast, there is another mountain range that comes down to the sea so its rugged mountains again as you wind around the coast.
And then it was an 8km wind down a valley to the ancient city of Olympos. Not quite a city now though. Very much just a backpacker village nestled along a river, right at the bottom of a valley where it flows out to sea. That's when it rains. At the moment the river is completely dry ...
