... to experience the rotation between the canals. From Falkirk we drove 4 hours to York to visit the National Railway Museum where there are trains on display from Stevenson's Rocket to the modern day Euro Star and the Japanese Bullet Train. After booking in to a B&B in York we walked to a local pub for dinner and then wandered to the York Cathedral. What an amazing church and so large. The bells rang around 8pm and I think my ears are still ringing from that ...

The months of anticipation and planning are over, here we are, lives packed in a campervan waiting to sail for Rotterdam and the Rhine lands beyond. The drive down to Hull was fairly uneventful. After a morning of rain showers we collected Evan from school and were underway by 2pm. Evan slept half of the way.

Spent the last two days in Cleethorpes/Grimsby where Grandma grew up before sailing to New Zealand when she was in her late teens.

So good to meet up with extended family and be looked after with a place to stay. Nice to put a face to the name as well as Grandma does like to talk about the past "Grimsby will always be her home".

... and headed off into traffic. Found Stickley residence without incident, lots of traffic near the on ramp of the motorway but managed that ok. Made very welcome from the get go, relaxed and cooled down and then Janet brought out some pastries to have with beer (David) and my rhubarb and ginger juice which was so refreshing. Met their two daschunds, Frank and Roly . A year old and very sweet. Steve's niece Anna, and her NZ husband Phil joined us for a bbq ...

... Lasagne and the lovely lime cheesecake. I hope our lime is surviving the winter! I got plans for the limes?!?,? After tea, watched some Wimbledon highlights and then the movie, Saving Mr Banks, story of turning Mary Poppins the book into the movie and the relationship between Walt Disney and PL Travers. An excellent movie. Loved it. Made for a late night but well worth it. Nottingham tomorrow. Home looms large! Did enjoy the day ...
