Cagayan is beautiful. Ive never been before and it was fantastic to see. A lot of my mums family reside in Cagayan and it was fantastic to see them. The country side of the Philippines is something i dont see much of. We spent Christmas here as well and it was really nice, we celebrated it at Kingston lodge our hotel and it was lovely, we then spent Christmas dinner at a venue the family hired.

... but it just helps to build bonds when you can break down the communication barrier, and Raine was intent on us learning. One of the volunteers got really good at it somehow in a pretty short amount of time. Of course she'd been in CDO much much longer than myself, but still, I was really impressed that she could somewhat carry on a conversation. A good number of the workers can already speak English pretty well, but you still have to do your part to explain certain ...

... moments. We stopped a few times to ask around and finally after a couple of U-turns we make it to the house. After seeing how we got there, I thought to myself (at the time), that there was no way I would have made it if I didn't have their help. Of course I probably would have been fine, and I'm sure, looking back now, that there were some taxi drivers who would know, but at the time, I felt really thankful I met some really nice people to help me get to my foreign destination ...

Wednesday we went to Carmen to do some mudding. The house was a real mess of mud and debris. Our team removed most of it to prepare them to remove the roof and sanitize. This family had received money to fix up and add a second floor from the red cross. The ...

... time with the other volunteers there, but for a community event I was hoping we'd spend more time with the community. Afterward one of the local workers who was playing in the tournament with us invited us to meet his family. This was really generous and a great opportunity to see life in the relocation site. His house was demolished, and they explained they didn't have pictures from before the flood. We met his children ...

The new room where we stayed smells like a newly painted one, not so pleasant for my nose.Yes, it's clean with tv, fridge, air con, hot and cold shower but the ambiance isn't as pleasant as the original rooms they have got where we first stayed. Moreover, they have just one plus, a swimming pool!
