... Drove around the coast to Porlock. Went up a steep climb to the top of the hill from Lynmouth, then over the moors with great sea views along the way. Then back down a steep hill into Porlock. Another village with narrow winding roads. There really is nothing to be done with the roads unless they demolish half the village and I cannot see that happening. It is no wonder the drivers are so patient and accommodating. Makes you realise how intolerant and impatient Australian ...

    St Austall to Brixham

After leaving St Austall we headed for Fowey which is such a gorgeous village at the mouth of the river. To our surprise when we walked down into the village there was the large shi Silver seas docked. It was the last thing you would expect to see in such a tiny place. Lovely shops and bought myself a casual top. Would loved to have stayed there for a couple of days. Passed through Portruan. Drove down into Polperro but once again it is a steep drive down to the village and cars ...

Its probably at this point that I should mention that the last six months of preparation for this adventure would not have been possible without a lot of help and ...

... Did a short walk up to a rocky outcrop to get a feel for the area. Shared the walk with sheep and Dartmoor ponies. Great views on such a lovely sunny day, but could easily imagine what it would be like on a cold, misty day when you could easily get disoriented. Drove down from here to Tavistock (out of the Park) but bypassed that and straight on north to Lydford (back in the Park). Went for a walk through Lydford Gorge where the river has carved a steep sided gorge as it moves ...

Gareth has now set sail from Plymouth at approximately 4pm. All feeling a little bit nervous today as the reality hits. Managed just about to get all of our stuff in the car. Fully loaded but we did it. Tomorrow is the beginning of a new era , very very excited. Enjoyed a full on day with the boys and Granny in ...
