... road to Auckland was in the opposite direction.

In Auckland I spent the evening in a hot tub with translating some rural Irish guys English for some Germans.

I'm having trouble finding computers, or the time to use them and the computers I do find don't seem to recognise external devices so I may not be able to upload pictures for a while. Someone on my bus has offered to lend me their laptop so I may start doing that and using wifi to upload more regularly.

... the treaty signed under. There is also a Maori Marae, a carved meeting house, that was built for the centenary of the treaty being signed, along with a large carved war canoe. The war canoe is now an official warship, after our current Queen asked if they would give her the honour of placing HMS before its name.

The Marae hosts cultural performances and we attend one. I'm normally a bit weary of going to these sorts of things, usually just being tourist traps, but this one ...

... Kauri Park, where we walked through the preserved natural forest on a carefully made trail was wonderful. The trees and other plants were fantastic, especially after quite heavy rain all day yesterday. Among the tree ferns we spotted the Silver Fern, standing out among the colours of the forest, ranging from green to orange, silver, brown. A beautiful start to the day.
