... us further south to our destination Maratea in Posetano. Momentarily, we had a couple of doubts until we realized that A30 and A3 were one and the same....whew!

As we continued south, we began to encounter increasingly higher hills with heavy vegitation. Another 30 kms down the road and he freeway began to go through the mountainous terrain rather than around them. We counted 28 fairly lengthy tunnels on our journey south. By the time we were 50 kms south of Naples, we ...

Good morning from the always lovely decks of the Milena. This will be our second, and last night in Acciaroli. Tonight I am going to make dinner for Jacques and Marina. Jacques requested pork chops, and Marina said there is a good butcher in Acciaroli. Good, I thought, because I need four chops, around two inches thick each. I remembered this lower market as not being as good as the upper one, which had tent after tent, and row after row. We quickly left the lower trashy junk, in search if the ...

Sept. 14: Panarea to Palinuro (12-hour crossing)

5:45a.m., Milena's engine came alive, breaking the otherwise silence of the pre-dawn night. We were off.... For the next 12 hours, we will be making our way to the Southern Italian coast. I was still in bed, and hoping the crossing was going to be a good one. To my utter amazement, the sea was calmer the tiny bay we have been in for the last two nights. With a Ho-hum, I curled up in my sleep-sac, under my duvet, and went fast asleep..... ...

... event that shut the joint down for 10 years. Even though Pompeii had several 'supporters groups within the city (equivalent of football clubs and their supporters). However, There was a bit of rivalry between Pompeii and the neighbouring city of Nocera. So when the chips are down you support the home town, regardless of your local team. The audio guide said there was essentially an all on brawl between the two cities at the colosseum and many people ...
