Hallo zusammen,

bin vor 6 Uhr aufgestanden um den Bus nach Bitola zu erwischen. Dies war eine bedeutende ottomanische Stadt mit einigen Konsuln aus anderen Laendern. Daher gibt es einige nette alte Gebaeude, einige Moscheen und einen kleinen Basar, wie ihn jede islamische Stadt hat.

Die Stadt ist natuerlich nicht uebermaessig gross, hatte 3h Aufenthalt, neben der Stadt gibt es allerdings noch eine weitere Sehenswuerdigkeit 2km ...

... When that day comes, maybe we won't here what we heard from more than one local during our time in Macedonia -- "You are from America? Why on earth would you come all the way here?" We just wish we had more time to spend here as we would love to hike the mountains and see some more of Macedonia's natural treasures. There is a lot to discover here for those who are willing to venture off the beaten path.

Version francaise plus bas After 48 hours of travel, including a short trip in Frankfurt, waiting for a connecting flight (Ah! POLSKI: Marta jeszcze spala, gdy wychodzilismy rano z jej mieszkania. Wsiedlismy w taksowke i dojechalismy do dworca (3 Euro, w Salonikach sa najtansze taksowki w calej Europie!). O 8:30 odjezdzal nasz pociag z Salonik do Floriny. Tamze poinformowano nas, ze jedynym sposobem dostania sie do granicy jest taksowka (tym razem chieli 15 Euro za kilka km). Bitola was a less than thrilling day trip from Ohrid. We wandered around for three hours and got quite bored. The most exciting part of the trip had to be the drive to and from. We hired a car for the same price as bus tickets and then nearly died of fume inhalation going up and down Macedonia's many mountains.

The sun was shining just like the weather forecast said it would. First time in at least a week. Did a whirlwind tour of Bitola (took more time in transit than actual sightseeing) and came back to Ohrid so I could have a relaxing sunny day near the lake. Dear Blog, On Wednesday morning (12th Sep) we got up very early for a 7am flight to Thessalonki which is in Northern Greec. We arrived at 9:30am Greece time and took a bus to the city and then a 3hour train ride to Florina which is about 30km from the Macedonian Border. For a little change of pace, I've spent the day out from Ohrid at Macedonia's second city, Bitola. The place has quite a long history, dating back to Greek times at the site of Heraclea (the ruins of which still sit outside of town), and it became somewhat of a boomtown in the 19th century, before diminishing in importance after the Balkan Wars and then being heavily damaged in World War I. NADJA: From Bulgaria we moved onto Lake Orhid, Macedonia with our Australian friend, Matt. The overnight bus was supposed to arrive at 5.30am however, we were left stranded in Macedonia at 3.30am.
