Hallo zusammen,
... When that day comes, maybe we won't here what we heard from more than one local during our time in Macedonia -- "You are from America? Why on earth would you come all the way here?" We just wish we had more time to spend here as we would love to hike the mountains and see some more of Macedonia's natural treasures. There is a lot to discover here for those who are willing to venture off the beaten path.
Version francaise plus bas After 48 hours of travel, including a short trip in Frankfurt, waiting for a connecting flight (Ah! German Wurst and Kraut!), we finally arrived in Bitola at 3 in the morning. For those that don't know the FYRM, more commonly known as Macedonia, is an ex-Yugoslav republic where Alexander the Great was born 2300 years ago. The capital is Skopje, although the most important city is Bitola, famous for the birth of Marija ...
Bitola, Macedonia jdelmairePOLSKI: Marta jeszcze spala, gdy wychodzilismy rano z jej mieszkania. Wsiedlismy w taksowke i dojechalismy do dworca (3 Euro, w Salonikach sa najtansze taksowki w calej Europie!). O 8:30 odjezdzal nasz pociag z Salonik do Floriny.
Florina, Macedonia Region, Greece bognaBitola was a less than thrilling day trip from Ohrid. We wandered around for three hours and got quite bored. The most exciting part of the trip had to be the drive to and from. We hired a car for the same price as bus tickets and then nearly died of fume inhalation going up and down Macedonia's many mountains.
Bitola, Macedonia kally563The sun was shining just like the weather forecast said it would. First time in at least a week. Did a whirlwind tour of Bitola (took more time in transit than actual sightseeing) and came back to Ohrid so I could have a relaxing sunny day near the lake. I also trekked back to Sveti Jovan Kaneo for the third day in a row. Finally, I had some sun casting over one of ...
Bitola, Macedonia lilycDear Blog, On Wednesday morning (12th Sep) we got up very early for a 7am flight to Thessalonki which is in Northern Greec. We arrived at 9:30am Greece time and took a bus to the city and then a 3hour train ride to Florina which is about 30km from the Macedonian Border. Florina is the main town in the area where Vic's Parents were born, they both came from Villages just outside this town. Elias who is Vic's 3rd cousin from his Mum's side picked us up from ...
Florina, Greece melvicFor a little change of pace, I've spent the day out from Ohrid at Macedonia's second city, Bitola. The place has quite a long history, dating back to Greek times at the site of Heraclea (the ruins of which still sit outside of town), and it became somewhat of a boomtown in the 19th century, before diminishing in importance after the Balkan Wars and then being heavily damaged in World War I. Today it's a pleasant, if unexceptional place, with a fair few streets of ...
Bitola, Macedonia xerius... of the rocks. It must take great effort to transport all the materials, the tools and the man power to the top of the rocks to built them!
Aaaahhhh.... Please don't break on me, please don't look down, please let there be no strong wind... Haha, nope that wasn't us. It is only used to transport those people who are not able to climb up in the olden ...
NADJA: From Bulgaria we moved onto Lake Orhid, Macedonia with our Australian friend, Matt. The overnight bus was supposed to arrive at 5.30am however, we were left stranded in Macedonia at 3.30am. I have no idea what any normal person would do in this situation. I was quite happy to go and lie by the lake and wait till a more appropriate time to go knocking on peoples doors for ...
