We took the funicular (train) up to the fortress, Festung Hohensalzburg. It was first built in 1077 and added on throughout the centuries. Very similar to many of the castles we have seen in Germany and Austria. After the ...

It didn't take long to drive the 20kms into Salzburg and cross the border into Austria for the first time. You always notice a difference because the street signs change and there are always a few border shops, but no passport controls anymore. We had to navigate through the maze of one way streets to find the hostel, which is actually normally a Lehrerhaus except for the summer break.

Nevertheless, it was a big day!
