So we stayed in Nusa Dua, which is a penisula off the east coast of Bali...relatively quiet and low key, but the beaches are nicer and it's a bit safer. Our resort was right on the beach amidst a bunch of other (expensive) resorts...but the pool was nice, the bar was cheap, and the weather was beautiful! A good place for our first time. So our second night in Bali we headed out to Kuta with our newly acquainted German friends and also guests of our hotel (with whom I got to practice my German...
Kuta, Indonesia sunikhosaJust some pictures of the view and sights around our hotel. Kinds Villa Bintang..right on the beach in Nusa Dua.
Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia sunikhosaThe food in Bali is very similar to Malaysia food, but with a little bit of a twist. The seafood is fresh and cheap, actually everything is cheap. They have Balinese sambal (spicy sauce) and another Balinese sauce, which is a little spicy and sweet...really yummy. Most of the places had similar selection of traditional Balinese food. We ate at a couple of the restaurants around our hotel and also went to Jimbaran to eat some seafood right on the beach.

... local dish recommended to us. We have yet to wander into the centre of the local village because we aren’t sure just how spicy the food is. Dad is keen to try it but I’m not sure if I would cope… !<br> Today we went to an Elephant Sanctuary in Taro (for those who know Bali…?!) where there are 29 Sumatran elephants. We rode elephants on safari through the local jungle. It was a bizarre sensation ...
Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia clarketour... center in Jakarta and Sukarno was Javanese. However, the far reaching archipelago contains 300 distinct ethnicties and 742 languages! The cultural and demographic similarities to India are striking. Linguists created Bahasa Indonesia as a roman alphabet-based (and Dutch influenced) lingua franca in the 1920s and the language was adopted throughout the Malaysian peninsula and Indonesian archipelago. Malay and Bahasa are very close and easier for westerners to ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia chiapoe... two thumbs up :-) I have also really enjoyed learning more about Balinese Hindu traditions- it's neat to compare/contrast to my understanding of Hindu traditions in India. The faith really appeals to me - they have some really nice ideas, very tight knit families, and I love the focus of balance - it is something I truly believe in myself. Yesterday was our "free" day - i.e. no tours, no real plans other than catching a traditional dance ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia moncasters... running around this area. We walk around the gardens and the Bali connection. I need to pick up band aids and disinfection cream for my cuts. We get all of our supplies and then we try to find packet pick up. I printed out an email that they sent with all the infomation. But, it has no address on it. We know we are in the right area. But, no one has ever heard of the building we are supposed to be going to. So, we walk around ...
Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia nprivette... watching that ray peacefully swim around in circles 30 centimetres above me. Well, you have seen the pictures, so yes, I had a little accident and got a tank dropped on my head and bounced on my leg I guess. Don't ask me how it happened, the important thing is that all my bruises are nearly completely gone and I am back to looking normal now. No further damage to report. The next day, I was ready for my flight out of certainly one the smallest airport in the world in one ...
Lembongan, Indonesia njarraud... to look at, but difficult to swim in), getting pulled over and barely getting off without a ticket after a vanity-induced helmetless ride on my part, taking full advantage of our duty free booze poolside, the bounty of delicious, filling food at restaurants ranging from warungs to ocean view poshness (still at amazingly cheap prices), and as cheesy as it sounds, sunset/nighttime beach strolls... some cliches, though glorified, are so deliciously, guiltily pleasurable...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia ana.k... on those three days, I spotted a thumb-sized spider on the wall, yak! After squashing it I still felt it legs crawling there.. So Nusa Dua does not have as many tourists as in Kuta, or so they say. And it wasnt season now either. That's why we wanted to stay there. That's alos why locals were all over you while walking on the street. They wanted you to eat in all of their restos, go to their tours ans shops. Understandable but sometimes annoying. Restaurants ...
Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia norsu... a little old volcano and built their rice fields on it's sides. Ok, I just can't believe these when I see them. I mean, rice grows in water, so they have to make plots of land to be filled like little pools. How do you do that on the side of a volcano? I've seen it and I still don't get it. It's an engineering feet of mind-boggling proportions. I don't even get how the irrigation to work? Anyway, i ...
