HK - Hong Kong Island and Kowloon

Day 1 After a reasonably quick 12 hour flight, one movie, two meals and 6 hours of sleep (3 for Andrew!) the plane touched down and the journey began..... An hour and a half, two train journeys and a short taxi ride later it was 7:30pm local time and we slumped on our double bed in the Metropole hotel in Kowloon. A fortuitous decision made months ago, to ease ourselves in by starting off in nice hotels, was to pay dividends over the next 10 days! We did a quick tour of the hotel, including it...

Hong Kong - the Peak

Well here I am in an Internet Cafe in Nathan Road - arrived safely on 17th having had a farewell dinner and some champagne on Tuesday evening with my family. Had a great flight - after a few glasses of champagne and dinner on the flight (I decided to do the trip Business/First Class) I was tucked up in bed and slept like a baby the whole way - 12 hour flight to Hong Kong - arrived fairly refreshed and checked into my hotel - the Airport Express bus to Kowloon was great - so smooth and silent....

Hit the Jackpot on Saturday!!

Hong Kong... What a place - full of surprises like Arnold Schwartznegger, Dom Perignon and High tea at the Peninsula... Well, I have got a little time - I am now in the Cathay Pacific lounge at HK airport - what a state of the art place this is!! Anyhow, to go back to my visit here - the last time I made an entry I had been to the Peak last Friday. Since then I have had an amazing time. On Saturday morning I went to Lantau Island to see the big Buddha and the Pi monastery. I got the ferry fro...

Hong Kong

April 17- Hong Kong First I should tell you that the Novatel airport in Bangkok is terrific. They're the only one AT the airport. They met our plane and shuttled us off although we probably could have walked five min. through the parking garage. Inside the lobby is almost hanger size with restaurants on both sides and shops down a side street. While I rested up Cheryl did some exploring. In one shop she met a kindred spirit, Carol from Burlington. Carol was on her own after separating from he...

Hong Kong Again

May 6 to 8th. Back again after a bit of suspense at the border. Left my backpack on the bus on the Mainland China side. You are supposed to take everything off the bus, walk through customs (filling out forms) from China, cross No Man's Land, then fill out more forms to come into Hong Kong. Half way through I realized I didn't have my bag. Couldn't go back. In the meantime Communist China customs had found my bag, stopped the bus, and searched my bag. They found my computer but were stymied b...

Will stay again

from FelixF
Great location with access to MTR food and all shops. This is a modern part of HK with some high end shopping if thats your scene or you can walk 2 min down/up the road to Budget eats and Mc Dondalds.

Pleasent staff, clean and serviced fully daily. We stayed on th 13th floor above any noise accept banging room and bathroom doors all night which would apply to any hotel over the new year period...these people seem to come and go all hours with showers at 2.30 and 4.30 am !!

The Hotel is modern and a full range of services provided.Hot water pressure was great. Staff spoke reasonable English and we enjoyed our say and felt welcome. Our credit card deposit was torn up at the end with no hidden charges ...an issue that had potentially worried me.

Checkout is Midday which is great and was efficient.

The little extras included at no additional cost like bath salts and a shower robe and slippers added to the special feeling. Compared to the more expensive hotels we could not afford we were really happy here and finished our holiday on a high.

Very Pleased

I just came back from my trip to Hong Kong and stayed at the Kimberley Hotel. I requested for a higher floor and was allocated to room 1515. 2A+1C travelling and were given a superior room (I think so cos I peeped thru other rooms on the same level and some were slightly smaller).

The room wasn't as small as I predicted, cos I had stayed in a smaller room before, Mayfair Hotel previously known as Dorsett Garden, was so small that you can practically change tv channels while sitting on the bed and without a remote!

The one at Kimberley was rectangle with angled windows but not much good view other than the messy back lanes of shops. The bathroom is reasonable with a bath tub and toiletries are given and replenished daily. Rooms are made, toilets are cleaned.

The only downside for me is that it took about 5min (my pace) to walk to the nearest MTR station without shelter. If it rains, then..

I wouldn't mind taking back the same hotel for my next trip, but I would also like to try other hotels. The tour guide did mention our local airline's air stewardess like to stay in Kowloon Hotel, I may try that on my next trip.

Very Good VAlue

I have just stayed at the Kimberley for 11 nights and have to say that it was very good. The room was certainly large enough for one person and had the all the necessary add ons - hair dryer, mini bar tea and coffee making facilities etc.

I would say, however, that there was a lack of cupoard space and that the bathroom was not the largest that I have ever seen. That being said, unless you are my wife or my daughter, you dont spend that much time in there !

One thing to note is that the elevator shafts were quite noisy, so if you are a light sleeper ask for a room down the hallway.

The Cascade bar was very comfortable and reasonably priced, in Happy Hour. The breakfast was exceptional value, but sadly the Honk Kong Hotels still allow smoking in restaurants - even tho there are seperate smoking and non smoking areas and at least the smoking area is not next to the food.

Location wise, the Kimberley is very convenient. It is close to the MTR and only about 15 mins walk to the Star Ferry. For the shoppers amongst you, the Miramar Shopping Mall is 2 mins away, Harbour City maybe 15.

All in all, I would recommend the Kimberely and would ceratinly say it represents good value for money

Stayed here for two nights in July, overall it is a typical inner city hotel and is good for just a base and bed, staff not particularly friendly and rooms are small

Pleasantly Surprised

from Clouds
My family (2A2C) and I have just stayed at Kimberly for 4 nights from 31May. Overall, we were quite pleased with our stay there. We were offered a complimentary roll-away bed. The hotel was also generous with its toiletries/towels, like giving us 4 sets instead of the usual 2 in other 5 star hotels elsewhere that we have stayed before. Housekeeping staff were also friendly and prompt in their response to our requests. However, the reception staff were a bit unapproachable/unhelpful. If only they could perform their job with a little smile!

Kimberley Hotel - great location

from kazakaren
Stayed 6 nights and found the location excellent just off Nathan Rd. Close to shops and eating area. 10 min walk to Star Ferry and 5 Min walk to MRT. Rooms were big enough for the two of us and were serviced daily. Staff were friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was good value. Will definitely stay there again.

Good clean basic hotel

from robndavid
Stayed for five nights. Excellent location - minutes from Nathan Road in the centre of Kowloon. Walking distance to Star Ferry/Ocean

Terminal, markets, shopping.

Rooms small but adequate & comfortable. Spotlessly clean & serviced daily. If you want a place to sleep and change your clothes this is ideal. Not a place to luxuriate in. Hot/cold buffet breakfast very good.

Very reasonably priced and good value. Would be happy yo stay here again.

Good value, great area.

Stayed at the Kimberley hotel in March 2005. We found the hotel was in a very accessable area for exploration of Kowloon and Hong Kong island. Kowloon is a very vibrant area to stay with many shops and places to eat. It was very easy to travel to any area from there, quickly and cheaply on the MTR rail system. I recommend the 3 day tourist pass, we definately got our moneys worth. Our room was clean and an adequate size. We did not have a particularly great view, but who wants to stay in their room to see the sights? The staff at the hotel were polite and helpful. I would recommend booking breakfast, it comprises of an all you can eat buffet with western and asian options, plenty for vegatarians too. Hong Kong is amazing, have a great trip!( There are also some great walking tour of Hong Kong guides available at the airport, pick them up when you arrive.)

Well located, good standard hotel

The Kimberley is well located in Kowloon. Everything is on your doorstep. The Star ferry to Hong Kong Island is a 10 min walk away and the metro system is close too. The rooms are small, but hey, it's Hong Kong. If you want space, you need lots of money. If you have lots of money, stay at the Peninsula. I've been told it's the best in the world.

I couldn't fault the Kimberley at all and I love Hong Kong!

Average standard hotel

visited Hong Kong may 2004 our tailormade trip located us to the Kimberley, right bang in the middle of Tsim sha tsui, definately one of the tourist area of HK very busy and if you like shopping this is one of the places to be. The hotel itself was nothing special but served its purposes for a short break. We had standard rooms but was upgraded to deluxe, I do not think we would have noticed any difference as the deluxe came across very standard and a very small, then they gave us a much more bigger room, room 1301 which was fine as there was 3 of us and we had a lot more room. Best of all is the staff, very attentive.
