Good Morning Vietnam!

... horror i have made a major mixed up. Instead of the expected 4 hours journey, it took 10 hours to reach Nha Trang! To make matter worst, we got ourself a hardseat
tickets. Basic wooden bench with an old rickety fan as ventilation!

Well as the saying goes, there will always be a time for something new. We took the hiccup in our stride and make the best out of it.

Hours later, a ...

Crazy Ho Chi Minh City!

... The journey seemed to fly by and before we knew it we were in HCMC.What a shock, getting of the bus and walking into a streets full of raving motorbikes coming from all direction, its hard work enough walking along these streets but having a bag the weight and size of a small elephant on your back makes it a million times harder to walk around and a target for all touts.
Its times like these when you are thankful for the annoying touts approaching for a place to ...

Museums, Palaces and Tunnels

... unfortunately, we had to do one to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels as they're out of town and not easy to find. It wasn't too bad though... It took us about 2 hours to get to the tunnels (including a stop at a factory for goods made by Agent Orange victims where they massively overpriced the goods - sometimes 10x what we'd seen them for elsewhere! We know it's partly for charity, but, still... greedy!). We were shown a video about the war and the tunnels, then taken round the sight. The ...

Crazy Vietnam

... Andrea had all the answers and I was beginning to recognise that all too familiar sensation in my stomach. I think it’s a mixture of possibility/regret at going against my initial plans/excitement plus an overwhelming feeling that travelling is just far too exciting and my ability to make decisions with ease is not improving with experience. A rather disappointing revelation after almost a year of travelling and decision making. Regardless the ...

Just Wadz

... The Vietnamese are great. They start drinking at lunch – copious and I am a Southern African, so when I say copious I think I am an expert – copious amounts of alcohol people. And it starts off with somewhat sedate tinkering of glasses to say cheers and descends into raucous standing ovations to each other – it’s wonderful – this is my world. After lunch every conversation becomes very interesting of ...

... for the people.

People here are hard workers. I mean, they know pretty well how to relax, but they are on a job, it's moving! Strong ddetermination to achieve a goal is often met here. And people here will help each other very much. The family still stands very strong as the basic unit. If not, friends will support each other.

I wish that the country would allow more freedom of speech. Not to criticize the government, but so to permit new ideas to emerge ...
