Too much turbulence?

No onneksi Cebu Airwayssin lennoilla aina arvotaan matkustamossa se pikku palkinto (laukku tms). Jos vaikka huomenna kavisi munkki...

Jetsetting

... in Shanghai at around 1:30 am, so late. Exhausted, I was accosted by taxi touts, and I gave in. The good thing was that Shanghai had been jungle-hot, and it had just rained so it was now cool and damp. Also, the late time made the trip from Pudong Airport, usually an hour, fly by much faster. I got back to Linping Lu at 3 am and collapsed, happy to have arrived at my destination in the fourth country I'd been to in less than 24 hours.

Day 2: First day in Taipei- It's a whole new world

... t read the menu so I just pointed at something. I saw that they had eggplant, which I REALLY wanted, but I didn't get that. Instead I had ordered a beef tendon soup with huge rice noodles. Beef tendon is apparently supposed to be a delicacy, but I do not think that I will eat it again. It just looks like fat, and it had no taste or sense of meat at all. I was eating cartilage. Oh well. Needless to say, I didn't feel right ...

In Search of Taipei 101

... around. This might be, however, be because I have neither a map or a guidebook. I stayed in a part of Taipei that is all flashing lights and, again, trying to be Japan. The food is good--this place is home to and seems obsessed with Chinese sausage, grilled on a stick on just about every street corner. The other national dish is Choudofu, or Stinky Tofu. Fermented Tofu deep fried (on a stick). Few foods scare me--this ...

Hot Spring Christmas

... We started at the normal outdoor spring first. It had all these massage jets of water and two beds with bubbles that came out of them. I had a lot of fun just playing with the buttons and making all these jets of water come out everywhere. I was like a little kid again. LOL. We did some 15 minutes there and then headed inside for the Japanese style ones. Meghan and I were the only ones there...which is nice. I have heard stories of foreigner's ...

Singapore and Flight Back

... a Malay is by default born into Islam. Malay are governed by Islamic law. Chinese are governed by common law. inter-marriage is not common. Any inter-marriages would involve converting to Islam and for men, getting circumsized. any baby born from the marriage would be considered Malay and thus be Muslim. According to him, converting away from Islam is not possible, especially if you have a Muslim name. Very interesting fellow....

The beginning

... I picked up some fried chicken, french fries and beer. Since Mrs. Professor Lee doesn't allow Mr. Professor Lee to indulge in such things, and since she wasn't around, the Professor bought the same for himself. We returned home and had a picnic on the roof of the apartment building while discussing how to solve the world's problems. During my few days here, Professor Lee, in addition to giving me a very nice place to stay for next to nothing, has showed me so many things that I ...

Going home

... going to leave Taiwan at 11:30pm on Friday the 13th, but arrive home at 7:30pm on Friday the 13th! This is sure one loooooong day! To amuse myself during the flight, I compiled this list of the different ways of transportation I've experienced in the past 5 weeks: 6 airplanes, 2 taxis, 2 ferrys, 4 express boats, 5 skytrains, 6 tuktuks, 2 private cars, 6 minibuses, 3 slowboats, 1 longtail boat ...

Cherry Blossom Madness

... of a science geek. We've learned about engines, levers, things like that (eek...) from his encyclopedia. The other boy I only started tutoring yesterday, but he's nice. His Mum is the absolute friendliest woman I've EVER met though! After our sessions yesterday she gave me cookies and tea, and invited me to go to Taipei to see the cherry blossom trees with the whole family today. She's lovely, always laughing and smiling. Makes ...

Even if everything else went wrong, I think I would be okay as long as I experienced those do things. So yeah, that's about it. --------------------------------------- - Just a brief/vague description of our itinerary so you can know where I am and when... November 30th (so ...
